terrific refurb, now more reason to go out to new malden for a crawl. always a great selection - i agree with the review about a decent pint of Brains SA. i normally crack on with the greene king ipa which is a great value tipple - and at a low volume that doesn't create hangovers the next day.

surprised only a few reviews of this place - normally a good range of ales available including landlord, directors and pride. food top notch, not cheapo, but it's definitely worth the few quid extra.
they normally have some sort of live music on a saturday (we accidentally stumbled onto a freddie mercury tribute which was fun as hell). overall, top pub, wish it was a bit closer as it's one of the top establishments in the area.

went in last night for a swifty with my wife, doom bar on draught which went down nicely. lovely pub, had previously avoided as it just looked like another run down boozer. clearly refurbed to a high standard. live music playing on the saturday night, which was great. we'll definitely be back for a longer session next time/

hadn't been in for years, my brother and i popped in for a beer and a burger. was very impressed by the quality of the ale and the food. at the same time, the service was excellent. they came up and offered drinks while we were eating which we could pay for on the way out. was a good touch, and made us feel trusted, at home and comfortable. i would urge you to check this pub out again, i am glad i did and this is now my favourite pub on the high street.

i love the swan room. can't find that sort of interior elsewhere. worth paying a bit extra for a pint, i think. haven't eaten there for a while though... can't give you an accurate idea of how that is these days.

fantastic pub. great atmosphere, with very friendly punters. the beer is also well kept, and the most recent real ale festival was packed. it goes from strength to strength and is an asset to carshalton. i wish there were more pubs like it.

The Lord Nelson, Cheam
Popped in for Sunday lunch yesterday. First impressions fairly friendly community pub, I'd say on a similar scale to the Nonsuch Inn up the road. Could see on the wall that it has regularly evening entertainment. Am sure this is a pub that would be a good visit for a pint, but my food experience was disappointing. My wife and I ordered a chicken roast. I asked why my portion was so small - apparently they're pre-portioned (so cooked, frozen and warmed up again on site).
The chicken certainly didn't have that fresh cooked taste. Potato's were of the cheap oven cooked variety, slightly worse than Aunt Bessie's. I wondered how a pub could serve food of this quality in this day and age where food sales are the main revenue generating product, but there you go. Next time, either I'll try and get in earlier to the Nonsuch Inn, which I've had terrific experiences at - or the HG Wells.
