The Harcourt Arms, Oxford

Good landlord and decent beers (Fullers, well kept). Cheap and tasty jacket potatoes and toasted sandwiches. Avoids loud music so it is a good place to go to chat with friends over a decent pint. There is a small patio garden out back which many people miss as you need to go out the front door and reound the corner.

Roo Bar, Clifton

Good for watching sport as there are ample screens. Otherwise not worth a special trip.

Sloanes, Bristol

Very cheap but not much else to recommend it.

Penny Farthing, Clifton

Knows its market which is people left behind by the gentrification and student-ification of Whiteladies Road. But it is not a classic pub.

Coach & Horses, Clifton

Needs to be cleaned and redecorated. Staff are good and venue should be nice but it is a shame that it is in a bit of a state.

The Jersey Lilly, Bristol

Landlord has moved to the Vittoria further down Whiteladies. Was good but has been utterly ruined when they "did it up". It is no longer an honest boozer and there are many better "city bar" type places down the road.

The Prince Of Wales, Westbury on Trym

Popular pub and can get quite crowded during sporting events in particular. The selection of beers is very good and the decor is cosy.

The White Lion, Westbury on Trym

This is one of Mitchells and Butler's Ember Inns branded pubs. It is clean and smartly done up and a safe bet to take anyone to as it will not offend anyone. But it is unlikely to be anybody's "favourite" pub as it is lacking in much distinctive character.

The Victoria Inn, Westbury On Trym

Great little pub with friendly landlord, good beer and nice atmosphere. One minor criticism is that it could do with some minor redecoration (not gutting it but just tidying up).
