I really don't think I look like a minor, but I got carded at the door :(
A trendy-ish bar with pretty good music. Fairly mixed crowd of young professionals, with the occasional student. Don't expect to find a seat/table as it gets pretty busy.
An average bar, would help if they spiced up the drinks menu.

Lovely large and family-friendly traditional pub.
We came here for a traditional Sunday lunch and it was delicious. To my despair, the portions are huge, so I couldn't fit in dessert. The custard puddings looked so homely and tasty!
I didn't read all of the menu as I had my heart set on the Sunday roast. But I do remember the menu was pretty comprehensive, with most of the traditional dishes you'd expect in a pub.
The pub feels cosy and familiar inside, and has large paned windows at the back (french windows perhaps, that open up during the summer months?) which gives lets in a lot of light.
Will definitely come again.

It looks a bit run down from the outside, but it has a 'cosy pub' feel to it on the inside. However, I got the feeling it was a place for 'locals' and not for outsiders.
This place was REALLY quiet at lunchtime on the Saturday we went. We went in after having read good things about the pub, but was a little disappointed by the initial shock of its run-down exterior, and the menu. We left shortly, and didn't even bother having lunch here.
However, I have since driven past this place and it seems to be packed during the weekends.
Maybe I will pluck up the courage to try this another time, and see what I'm missing!

I like this pub for pub lunches in the garden seating during the summer. Seating inside seems a bit dark and dreary. I wouldn't say this is a 'locals' pub, more of a place for pub lunches for nearby workers or families.
Food tends to take a while to come during lunchtimes (even when the place isn't super busy). The menu is pretty good - good choices of sandwiches, pastas, and other traditional pub food.
I wouldn't say the prices were ridiculous, however they are higher than those in nearby Leatherhead.
It's a bit far out from the town centres and nearby offices, but I prefer it to those in Leatherhead for a pub lunch.

More of a restaurant than a pub. Good place to come for business lunch or for dinner.
I love the comfy seats and cushions in the booth tables. I also love the handwash and hand lotion in the bathrooms. In the ladies' loos, they used to have complimentary tampons and sanitary towels, but they haven't the last 2 times I've been.
The 'real wood' fire adds an element of cosiness to the otherwise modern decor.
Staff tend to be clueless at times and don't go out of their way to be friendly.
Wine list is pretty extensive. Food can be a bit hit or miss, but on a good day it's delicious. The portions are large, and I am always hard pushed to squeeze in dessert.
Not really a place to go for traditional pub food, however they do have their own 'version' of traditional dishes such as steak pie, fish and chips, Sunday roast.
Approx. 25 per person for 2 courses and a couple alcoholic drinks.

One thing I like about Penny Black is its town centre location. The food and range of drinks are average, and the glasses and tables tend to be grubby.
On the plus side, prices are reasonable, and it's a decent place to go to watch the sports.
I try to avoid PB, mostly because it is so smokey - I sweat, it is so smokey that even my underwear ends up smelling of smoke. Not cool.

Pews, Guildford
I have mixed feelings about this place. It always seems really grubby and studenty, but then it's an ok place for mingling.
Pimms and lemonade here is lovely in the summer. Otherwise, there's nothing special about the bar and the drinks menu.
Music is pretty good, but not really my kinda thing.
Very smokey, even in the oudoor section.
