Recently "beiged up" by Youngs - result no atmosphere, no decent cider and no chance of me ever going in the again.
I thought the breweries gave up ruining pubs in the 90's?!
Still no doubt they'll get the yank tourists in from the big hotel up the road.

Service has gone down hill of late and my friend was treated very rudely by the bar manager when he was short changed.
Raiding Bristol Zoo for the menu seems a bit odd too. ZEBRA - it's a stripey horse you philistines!

Plenty of apple based goodies for the ciderheads - usually 5 or 6 decent ones on offer i.e. Westons Old Rosie, Cheddar Valley etc. Service is always pretty quick. Plenty of ales for beardy types too :P

Great "out of the way" pub with top food and Addlestones & Stowford Press ciders...nice.

The Pipe and Slippers, Montpelier
Anywhere that sells Stowford Press, Westons Organic and Thatchers Traditional ciders in additon to Portuguese tapas and Pie minister pies is a top pub if you ask me!

A bouncer was convicted of blinding a student in one eye by hitting him with a walkie talkie at this establishment a couple of years ago. His crime? He'd fallen asleep in the club...
If you think "Barbie Girl" etc is some sort of musical classic and don't mind having wkd thrown over you by hyperactive rah students then you might like it. If you're slightly more sophisticated then give it a very wide birth.

A proper dockside pub.
Full of local characters.
An excellent place to start a summer session - followed by The Mardyke, The Bag O' Nails and the Hope & Anchor!

Large city centre pub which sells a wide range of real ales and quality ciders - Cheddar Valley aka Um Bongo is a fave!
Tucked away in the old city near to the last remaining gate of the old city wall (St Johns Gate) near Corn Street (but a million miles away from the townie hell of most of the bars around it).
Just goes to show you don't have to cater for alcopop drinkers to have a decent town centre pub.

I walked past yesterday and it appears to now be closed...unless the piles of rubble I spied through the window are some sort of radical new design feature?!

Interior looks like prisoner cell block H.
If you don't like their beer then you're stuffed basically.
Refuse to sell cider - in Bristol, The West Country...
"Not part of their ethos" apparently. (I bet they're selling some gut rot like Magners before the year ends)
And no, the mango beer doesn't "taste a bit like cider!
It all smacks a bit of "we've come down from London to teach you wurzels how to run a bar"
Having said all that the food is pretty good :P

Has lost it's allure somewhat in recent times as much better places such as The Croft, Pipe & Slippers have opened - although it's garden is it's saving grace.
Unfortunately the last time I went it seemed to be populated with trusafarians trying to act poor/hard.
Stay off the k quentin it's not a good look. ;p
If you can find a spot in the garden away from such types it can be pleasant enough in the sunshine.
Does Thatchers gold.
Bring back the Space Invaders!

Decent honest, friendly pub - no frills and has escaped being ponced up or themed.
A good spilt between quieter lounge and lively bar. Pool table in the bar. A mixture of local characters and students.
Graduate types and chinless students tend to look down there noses at it - sign of a half decent pub if you ask me!
Black Rat and Thatchers Gold for the apple lovers.

Now no longer "The Goose" - just the Flyer again.
After a makeover - yeah leather sofas, beige walls, bare floors and modern art on the walls (the "gastro pub" look is becoming a cliche) - this has become a decent pub again. Certainly has the best garden on the lower part of Gloucester Road.
Addlestones and Westons Organic for the cider heads. Magners (spit) for those who don't have a clue! :P
A wide range of real ales & lagers etc
Also, is it compulsory with these newly spruced up trendy pubs to employ student bar staff who are obviously too cool to bother serving you and find more important things to do like bottling up or chatting to their mates when there are 5 or 6 people waiting?!
If the staff got a kick up the jacksy I'd give this pub an 8.

The quintessential Bristol pub. Buster Bloodvessel is known to frequent when he tours with Bad Manners.

Decent enough locals pub. Not been in the for 10 years or more though...

aka Chasers or "Wacky Racers"
Probably changed to Soapy Joes ten years ago but it's still Chasers to most - Stephen Merchant co writer of The Office is from nearby Hanham, maybe this was the inspiration for the club in Slough in the series?!
A local club for local people...

Probably Bristol's best pub. Ignore the area it's in as there's never any trouble from the homeless hostel down the road - Marion always sorts them out!
A mixture of long term locals, office workers, students, musicians, artists and generally cool people frequent the place. Open late most nights - until 1am on friday & saturday.
DJ's on 5 nights a week, nothing too mental, all cool tunes. One handsome chap plays some good stuff every other friday - DJ iyers! :P
Westons Organic in bottles and Ashton Press on tap keeps me happy. Full range of Butcombe beers for the real ale buffs and Stella, Fosters & San Miguel for lager types.
Gurt mint.

Incredibly cheap pub on the Hotwell Road. Mixture of locals, builders and students with never any hint of trouble. Quirky decor and great atmosphere.
Used to have a pool table but it's gone now.
Natch in cans and thatchers and 'thorn on tap for the ciderheads! A no nonsense, top boozer.

The Prince of Wales, Bishopston
This pub would be great if the service at the bar wasn't so painfully slow, but then it has been for a while and it doesn't seem to deter people going in there. Get there early on fridays and saturdays to get a pew as it is invariably rammed.
Westons Organic in bottles and Ashton Press on draught for the ciderheads amongst us!

Mr Foley's Cask Ale House, Leeds
The fact that it sells Westons Stowford Press cider makes it an automatic 10 out of 10 in the decent cider desert that is the North!
