The Old Manor, Potters Bar

Called in for a drink and a meal a couple of evenings ago. Have to say some of the comments puzzle me. there was a very mixed crowd in the pub. A good selection of beers and the food, whilst a little above average pub-grub prices - was very nice. Service was very good too. If this was my local I'd be very happy.

The Good Companions, Woodley

Visited the Goodies for the first time in about 10 years on a recent lunchtime. Very pleasantly surprised to find the Barras refurb and restyling has worked very well. Only two guest ales - London Pride and Hobgoblin. The pride was excellent. Impressed by the food menu - very good value pub-grub at 2 for 8 and mate and I enjoyed it, but would have some doubts as to service when it is really busy. Altogether a much more pleasant place than in former years... I can recall garden bench being thrown through the big bay window in around 1978 or so. First used this pub in 1967 and can genuinely say that it has greatly improved. Well done Barrass company and pub staff. Will visit again soon (and take the mrs.)

The Red Lion, Alnmouth

Lucky enough to visit this lovely pub twice recently whilst on a short holiday in the area. Excellent atmosphere & very good service. Black Sheep plus 3 local ales - Farne, Lizzie's tipple and another one, I think from Home Farm brewery but may be wrong. Barman just offered a sample glass of each without us asking: how often do you find that? Some good whisky on the shelf too. The food looked good too and at reasonable prices. Would love to have this pub as a local! I rate it a 10! Sadly we had to miss the beer festival at the weekend.

Bird in Hand, Reading

After all the ups & downs of this pub over a number of years (I first called in here in early 1970's) I thought it was time to try again following the re-opening last year. What a pleasant experience despite the somewhat slow food service on a very, very busy weekday lunchtime: very good menu with reasonable pricing. Good service - friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Some really nice local (Loddon brewery) beers. As other posters have mentioned there is not much room in the bar but it and the lounge area are very cosy and the young barman was on the ball. In summer the garden will be great. Will certainly visit again. Soon I hope.

The Flowing Spring, Playhatch

Recently made first visit since new management - Nick & Hazel - took over. Have to say I was impressed by the efforts made so far. Decor and seating improved. Good menu from which I chose and enjoyed the lunch. The London Pride was truly excellent. Looking forward to more visits with friends & family in near future and can only wish Nick & Hazel all the very best in making a success of their new venture. cheers!
