This is a local pub for local people, we don't need your sort round here.
If 'character' means obnoxious, bigoted old bores then this pub has it's fair share of character. Smelled a bit like a toilet and the loos smell worse.
As persuasive an argument for gastrofication as you'll find.

The Freemasons Arms, Hampstead

all the charm of an airport hotel. in spite of a great location and large beer garden this place gets it wrong on so many levels. you get the feeling that whoever owns this pub has never even set foot in it

The Magdala, Hampstead

nice relaxed place with good food, friendly staff and not too pricey for the area. though if you're just out for a beer the bar at the side is a bit small and dingy compared to the bright spacious area dominated by the diners. not a bad place to while away a few hours...
