Vauxhall Griffin, Vauxhall

Great place this. Whenever I've gone it's been fairly quiet. However walked past one Friday & it was heaving (out on the pavement at least).

Great Jukebox, Clean, friendly staff, pool table, NICE!

I think it attracts all sorts, some young ones off to the nearby roller disco, locals (of the younger end), maybe it has a slight alternative vibe to it. Kind of reminds me of a cleaner, much more straighter & friendlier Retro Bar in Charing Cross (and a lot more spacious).

Makes me want to take up drinking again! Maybe I will.

The Fentiman Arms, Kennington

I agree with the previous comments. The manageress always seems to have a long face! It seemed to me that she was churlish all evening & just plain rude come closing time. You'd think at least that would put a smile on her face - it didn't.

Funky Munky, Camberwell

This place is awful!

Use to be OK once upon a time. Then they moved the bar from the back wall to side wall, why? Have been there for a late night drink when everything other decent place in Camberwell (ie Dark Horse or Hermits has closed).

You have to pay to get in, 4 I think. The music is middle of the road 'Disco' think Grand Master Flash, white lines ... yep them old crowd pleasers which you know any nos of bars in London are playing at any one time.

The people genuinely seem to be having the time of there lives here. Studenty (I use the term demeaningly). At this time of night OK expect a few walking just messes.

The beer (no stella) Kronenberg then, tastes awful (always does). Not sure whether its the pipes or what?

I'm use to bad toilets but these are particularly bad.

Gone to the dogs. Woof!

The Castle, Camberwell

Used to come here when called The Snug. Much the same in layout. I think it use to be trendy-ish (when i used to go - joking). Either I'm getting older or its lost its edge, actually both those statements are true.

Don't like the chandeliers, they look grubby which in turn gives the whole room a dirty feel. Now that you can't smoke inside maybe they should think about giving them a clean. The 'Art work' is VERY hit and miss.

Don't serve Stella!! But serve Kronenberg which to me always tastes a little weird.

Had dinner there late (10pm) one Sunday about a month ago, the waitress was fantastic, did her best for us with the by then limited menu (Sunday Roasts were out), what I had instead was delicious. Can't remember what now, although I do remember being unimpressed when desert arrived and the cream had obviously come out of a spray can!! Mind you at least they were brazen about it.

Dark Horse, Camberwell

A grower this one. At first I thought bland but actually its really very good indeed. Great beers here, even better cocktails. The food is very good too.

Nice atmosphere and the music is inobtrusive enough. Played at just the right volume, nice place to eat, chat and chill or both!

Much better than Blakes. RIP

The Black Sheep, Camberwell

Been in here a few times. Not really for me it just seems to be lacking that something.

For me a pub is about the people that drink there and obviously the beer (although I'm a stella guy - read into that what you will)

Has to be said that the one Sunday quiz we entered was a hoot. Free grub for the teams, now thats what I call an incentive.

Haven't been in here for about a year.

The Hermits Cave, Camberwell

Moved to Camberwell in 2002 initially drank at the Funky Monkey and would look across to the Hermits & think rough! Oh the irony, I now do that from the opposite direction (and have been for the last 4 years).

This place is easily the best place by miles for miles (literally - I now live in Vauxhall & still consider the Hermits my local).

A bit art college studenty at times (I mean that in a nice way) but not overpoweringly so.

Yep there are the regulars/locals and their cliques including me & my best mate- the ultimate clique. Everyone gets on with everyone & that leads to much merriment.

Having no 'mood' music is not something you actually notice or miss, although I have ONCE heard music.. New Years Eve 2004. My friends from out of town were down & we ended up here (every other place in the vicinity was rammed & over-charging on the doors) But not the good old honest Hermits. To be honest I was slightly worried about what they'd think, I needn't of worried as we all had FANTASTIC night.

Actually it was one of the Best New Years ever!!

Great place. Three Cheers to the Hermits.
