'You just don't get pubs like this anymore', 'glorious period decor' (??!!!!). The egotist in me would like to think Dick is trying to wind me up but as his profile declares him to be a young man of 30 years I shall put his statements down to cluelessness.
Dickie Boy...why don't you tell us what you actually drank in this place?

'The Wenlock Arms is exactly the same'. With the hole in the floor where you can see the cellar? What a shithole.

When the self-appointed ambassadors of the Wenlock - Millhouse, Phucough, elsie pop, the execrable lad newton - stop spouting sycophantic and misleading drivel, then I'll stop feeling the need to provide a more balanced and truthful picture about the place.

Yes, Millhouse, I did have a bad experience here. Several in fact. You see, I've visited this pub at least six times. On only two occasions was the beer good (Hophead, and an Oakham ale). On at least two other occasions the beer was shit.
However, the beer is not the main problem with this pub. The problem is the complete contempt the owners have shown towards their alleged core clientele. Every time I've been in here, there has been a group of foul-mouthed old men sitting on the right side of the bar. The staff never make any attempt to curb their behaviour. This would not be tolerated in most pubs, so why here?
Then, of course, there is the celebrated floor, it's atrocious condition ignored for at least the last five years. And now, apparently, there's a hole in it and you can see down into the cellar! It makes one wonder how long the owners have been planning to jump ship. .
But what irritates me most is the way The Wenlock Arms is held up as some shining example of the 'classic British boozer', 'last of a dying breed' etc etc. It isn't, it's just a run-down dump.
There are loads of great, old pubs in London. I suggest you go and find them.

"a hole in the floor so you can see the cellar"....yes, that about sums up the contempt the owners of this 'pub' have for their clientele.
"to destroy this pub would be nothing short of cultural vandalism"....no, to destroy this 'pub' would be doing the world a massive favour.
Oh, and MrReadingFC, George Orwell wouldn't have drank in this toilet if it was the last 'pub' on earth.

The quicker this toilet is replaced by a block of luxury flats the better. So there you have it, elsie dear.

'the pub is still outstanding in North London'. Chick mate, what are you on? The pub is a SHITHOLE. That is why CAMRA are not supporting it. You, and everyone else who praises this place, clearly haven't got a bleedin' clue.

Interesting to see all these new entries in the Top 40, despite no corresponding reviews. TALLTORQUIL has clearly got too much time on his hands.

Interesting to see that the CASK Pub and Kitchen has disappeared completely from the Top 40 and that the distinctly average Lord Clyde and Ship at Wandsworth are back in the Top Ten, despite no corresponding reviews(nothing to do with someone registering false IDs!)

A marvellously unspoilt traditional pub, selling excellent ale. What else do you need?
Probably my favourite pub in London.

This pub has been yoyoing up and down the Top 40 for the last three months despite not been reviewed since December. I detect a strong odour of rodent...

The Magpie and Crown, Brentford
Thanks for clearing that up, Lee. There were a lot of very concerned individuals out there.
