The Abergavenny Arms Hotel, Frant

Popped in with two friends on Saturday lunchtime at the end of a long walk. Despite the fact that we were wet and muddy, the staff were friendly and welcoming. Beer was excellent. Does all feel rather like a hotel foyer, which is not my taste - but it wasn't nearly as bad as the other reviews led me to expect.

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

Still a but special though to be honest it's a sad reflection of what it was like 4-5 years back. Trading on past glories, even though a lot of the staff and clientele that made it special are no longer around. Even Tom is getting lazy. Beer far less reliable than it was in Terry's day, despite the extortionate prices. Still worth a visit if one's in the area but if I was planning a night out I'd head for the Olde Mitre instead.

The Coach and Horses, Kew

Basically a pub with a hotel attached, rather than just a hotel bar. Drinkers are mainly locals or staff from the botanical gardens.

Unlike other reviewers I've always found the staff here friendly and efficient. And the Youngs special is usually in tip top condition. Unfortunately, the beer's overpriced and the layout of the bar means that it always feels cramped. Usually has the big-screen sport on with the volume up, which personally I hate, though others may love it. If there is a large group, or lots of families staying in the hotel, it does tend to kill the atmosphere.

The Botanist On The Green, Kew

Not a pub but a restaurant with a bar area. Good food and not too overpriced, though the real ale was decidedly iffey last time I ate there. Nice enough spot but very bland interior - rather too much of an all-bar-one clone with little character.
