Hmmm, what to say about the Island. I have to say that when we visited there for a family due, we were looking forward to having a memorable night, unfortunately it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. When this place changed from the Caversham Princess, it had every opportunity in the town to be incrediably successful. Great location but a great let down. There were 6 of us, 2 peoples foods were not available. Our choice of wine was not available twice. Then at the end of the evening, BOOM BOOM BOOM, the music from the downstairs bar intruded. Might go back again but will have to be much better i'm afraid to say. 4/10

After being blinded by the football pitch floodlights posted on the edge of the carpark, we entered into a warm friendly pub. I had been to the Pack horse before it changed to blubeckers and it was dark and unwelcoming, hurrah for the new lived kicked back into this place. The was good and arrived in good time. The one let down, i am sorry to say was the staff, they were nice, but a bit too nice a bit too enthusiastic. After being asked for our order just as our seats were warming up, we asked for another few minutes, 30 minutes later i had to ask to be served. That is only a small quibble but there had to be one....will definately go back again, lets hope they let me after this review. 7/10

The Griffin, Caversham
I eat here regularly i have had a range of foods from the extensive list. I have only had one bad experience there and that was with the (hopefully ex) Bar manager or owner, an aging Irish man. Who when i complained that he had given my girlfriend a dessert wine rather than a dry white wine, told me to Sush holding his index finger to his lips. Rude!! Apart from him good food, good ambience and good service. 8/10
