The Buckinghamshire Arms, Blickling

Popped in for lunch after a visit to nearby Blickling Hall. Recently re-opened after refurbishment, it was barely warmer than the cold, wet April day outside. The woodburning stove had not been lit. The service was slow and confusing - a waitress took drinks orders but didn't know another would take the food order. The ploughmans were a triumph of presentation over content. Served on a wooden board, unusually for this traditional pub fare it did not include bread. The Gents was poorly sign posted and involved a trip into the pouring rain, quaint but not pleasant. Surprisingly expensive, 3.60 for a pint of Adnams is probably a Norfolk record.

The Cherry Tree, Wicklewood

A lovely friendly pub where landlady Julie serves excellent beers from Buffy's micro brewery. Went there last night for the fortnightly jam night - a great fun night which attacts musicians and audience from far and wide. The jam starts about 8pm and goes on til 11pm-ish.

The Adam and Eve, Norwich

I've been visiting the Adam & Eve since the 1970's and have a great deal of affection for it. Whilst the food may not be adventurous, we enjoyed our sandwich and baguette and a fine pint of Adnams.

The Woolpack, Norwich

Glad to see this classic pub open again - but for how long? Nice pint of a local brew - wish it luck....

The Playhouse, Norwich

Superb, friendly atmosphere - great shabby, chic decor. Excellent resident DJ - I love the sound of the twittering birds as you enter the door! Excellent.

The Golden Star, Norwich

Popped in on another of my visits to Norwich, staying at the nearby Premier Inn. Pleased to say nothing has changed except the credit crunch beating Green King IPA at 1.99 is 50p cheaper! An excellent pub.

The Old Ford, North Camp

Now the home of John Moline's weekly Tuesday night blues-rock jam that used to be at the Upper Hale Working Mens club. Licensed until 12 midnight, means that players have more time - starts about 9pm. To join in, just bring your instrument and/or voice. Live bands also on Friday nights. Does a nice pint of Courage Best as well as a couple other real ales. Nice, friendly atmosphere in this traditional pub.

The Onslow Arms, West Clandon

Still got live music on Wednesday nights - last night were the highly entertaining Flying Tigers. Pint of well kept Brakspear (ABV 3.4%) 3.20 and a pint of Bitter shandy 3.00 - a bit toppy IMHO....

Micawbers Tavern, Norwich

A fine pub in a fine city in a nice, quiet part of town. A good selection of real ales that are well kept.

The Golden Star, Norwich

This a great traditional pub - I hadn't been in there for about 20 years and it has hardly changed since although it's much less smokey now!

I spent last Saturday afternoon there with a couple of mates drinking real ale and playing darts. 4 real ales, all under 3.00 starting with Greene King's IPA at 2.50 - nicely kept and reasonably priced.

The Round Oak, Padworth Common

Saw excellent local band Six Miles Away play there a few weeks ago - a really nice country pub; top marks.

The Anchor, Knaphill

As recently reported in the Knaphillian, "Due to a lack of foresight by The Anchor's new owners, the pub has recently instructed it's management team to pull the plug on their Saturday night slot for live music. This is a major blow for the village that has come at a time when they could have benefited greatly from being one of Knaphill's best venues for such entertainment." A great shame, another live music venue lost.

The White Hart, Tongham

I went to The White Hart yesterday for my first time (and it won't be last!) for their first Beer Festival and to see excellent local band, Six Miles Away - both were on top form.

What a great pub - excellently run by Ali and Kev with top quality ales and three rooms around a central bar which mean you can find just the right place for you.

The Bear and Ragged Staff, Wrecclesham

Now managed by "Bug-eyed" Bill (ex-The Crown, Knaphill) who has introduced live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. Great place to see excellent local bands like Stealers Bluff and Six Miles Away.

The Sun Inn, Chobham

A great old style pub. Has live music on Tuesdays and Saturdays. On Tuesdays a guy called Flick plays and musicians are encouraged to bring along their instrument and join in. On Saturdays there are great local bands like Six Miles Away, The Flying Tigers and The Undercovers. Nice pint too!

The Live and Let Live, Guildford

This a great music pub, excellently run by Maz. There is a blues-rock jam every month on the second Tuesday and great local bands like Six Miles Away play on Saturday evenings. Great fun, friendly and intimate atmosphere.

The Crown and Cushion, Haslemere

This is a great pub for live music on a Saturday night. Loads of great local bands like Six Miles Away play there - they also do a nice pint of Youngs! Well managed by Tom.

The Blue Anchor, Byfleet

The Blue Anchor has live music on the 1st and 3rd Saturday evening of every month. Saw a great local band, Six Miles Away, and had a great night.

17 Feb 2008 19:41

The Crown Inn, Knaphill

This is a great pub on a Friday evening for live music. I've seen many great local bands there including Second Time Around, Six Miles Away and Ruptured Rabbit. Great atmosphere and lots of fun.

17 Feb 2008 19:35

The Dog and Partridge, Yateley

I popped in on a Saturday evening to see a blues rock band, Debbie Giles Undercover, and had a very good evening with a good pint or three of Bombardier.

IMHO a good pub for live music on Saturday evenings with excellent local bands like the Micky Kemp Band and Six Miles Away playing there.

The Cricketers, Westfield

Last Thursday's jam was a real blast.

Well over 50 people there - great atmosphere, good music, fine beer and a pretty bar maid; and apart from the beer (2.70 a pint), all free - you couldn't ask for more!

So if you like live music in the blues-rock tradition, get down there on a Thursday evening - starts 8.30pm.

The Cricketers, Westfield

I kid you not - the Thursday jam is an all-genre electric jam, which has relocated from the White Lyon, Worplesdon from this week and is in addition to the Monday jam at the Cricketers. The Thursday jam, organised by Pete Doyle, is one of the best jams in the Surrey Blues Delta. See you there.

The Cricketers, Westfield

The excellent Thursday jam which used to be held every week at the White Lyon in Worplesdon has now moved to the Cricketers in Westfield.

The Cricketers management are keen to develop live music in a pub that has a history of live music going back at least to the early days of Paul Weller's band The Jam.

Come along on a Thursday and join in or just look and listen or even dance and sing along! Tell all your friends who might want to come along too.

The jam starts at 8.45pm, every Thursday.

The Anchor, Knaphill

I popped into The Anchor last Friday because it had live music and was very pleasantly surprised - many music pubs are not so welcoming. Had a great pint of Fullers' London Pride and saw an excellent local band, Six Miles Away - not too loud either. Wide range of ages too so I didn't feel out of place either.
