The Gardeners Arms, Lewes

Very strange place that doesn't allow heavily pregnant women to use their toilets, unless they are part of a club. Hope you are happy with this policy on bonfire night, and that common sense doesn't apply here.

The Bridge Inn, Yatton

Devoid of any soul, decent beer and atmosphere, not really got much going for it. Just one ale on tap, the below average abbot ale, and the usual choice of rubbish lager. One to drive straight past.

The George, Hayes

There are some desperate, and laughable postings on here from the manager/owner of this place, I assume they think the customers are wrong, and they are right yet again, which is frankly arrogant. Madax is definately within walking distance as he/she claims, as they probably only have to walk down the stairs to get to this place. Vastly over-inflated opinions are obvious to any real customer, and that's pretty much all we have seen. Please spend more time on customer service, and the below average food, than on here, your time would be much better spent! There are hardly any pubs within walking distance of this place, so it should do well, but is clearly badly run. Must try harder, and must try to listen to the customer.

The Waterside, Cowes

A year and a half on from my one and only visit, and it still remains by far the worst pub I have ever been into. Memories of the food still linger on, like a Hitchcock horror film. If BITE had a minus rating, this place would get a more accurate mark from me.

Pearsons Arms, Crab And Oyster House, Whitstable

A lovely pub in a fantastic spot on Whitstable. Had lunch only in here, so can't comment on the pub part, but can say that the food is absolutely excellent, better than most restaurants to be honest. Well worth a visit, make sure that a window table is booked, as the views are fantastic. Can't wait to go back for that lovely fish pie!

The Chatterton Arms, Bromley

What an awful place this is, full of drunks, no real ale, and a really strange smell. One to walk straight past! It gets a mark due to having a large beer garden, and for nothing else

Chequers, Bromley Common

I have to say that I really enjoyed my first ever visit to this pub, even though I have lived close for many years. It's got a great "local" feel to it, quite old fashioned, and the ale on tap was great. House ale was abbot ale, and the guest ale was called flankers tackle, which was one of the best ales I have ever tasted in a pub. Food was also good in here, but before I rate it really high, I will pop back one night and see if it's as nice then as it was on my first visit. First impressions though are always a good reflection, and I thought the place was great, and look forward to going back.

The Bricklayers Arms, Bromley

This pub has always been a favourite of mine, a lovely place for a quiet pint. Recently taken over from the very old fashioned previous people, who bizarrely ran it on old pub hours, so it was closed when you really wanted a pint! Thankfully it's now open all day, and just as importantly they have introduced a new ale. Not sure about the inclusion of the tv's though, but really grateful that the dreary music has gone, and replaced with some much better stuff. I always enjoyed the fact that this pub was free of tv's, so I don't think they are a good idea, if I want to watch one I can go home. Overall, this place really is worth a visit, which I shall be doing very soon!

Hardys Freehouse, Greenwich

A great pub to meet up with your mates, but not one to take the missus to for a quiet pint. Tom is about the most insistent cook you will ever meet, and his food is really good. Real ale is not available in here, but the Guinness was great. All pubs should have juke boxes in, and this one has a good one, so well done. Overall not bad, middle of the road pub, but I would most definately go back

The Tigers Head, Bromley

Jaynewhite - I wish you well in attempting to turn this pub around. I was in here a few weeks ago, and there was no real ale on tap, I am glad to hear that you have changed this, the problem was that there was no customers! Glad to see you have spent some money on the decor, and hope the average Bromley neanderthal doesn't wreck it like they have done for many years. I hope you can turn it around and make it the best pub in Bromley, like your comment states, be aware it shouldn't take too much to achieve your goal.

Ye Olde Whyte Lion, Locksbottom

Lovely pub, with real ale on tap, and good food. Has a cracking beer garden for the summer, no plants, but plenty of space. Not a big fan of Shepherd Neame ales, but they are kept in good condition here, a pub which is well worth stopping at for a nice pint.

I always find it a little embarrassing for pubs when landlords or landladies feel the need to write a load of old tosh about their pubs, pretending to be customers, it really sticks out. You would do well to remember that the customer is always right, and that it's their custom which keeps pubs like your's going. It would appear that certain customers have found this place disappointing, myself included, and that their comments should be taken on board, not ignored. To describe fish and chips as amazing really takes the biscuit, if you can't get that right you need shooting. Due to these landlord/lady comments, I will be rating this as a big, juicy 0, without these comments it would have got a 3. You clearly have lessons to learn leebeee, the most important one is about being nice to your customers.

The Slug and Lettuce, Bromley

Sterile atmosphere, crap beer, and expensive. To be used as a meeting point, and then move on somewhere else.

Lord Homesdale, Bromley

This is about as bad as a pub could possibly get! There was a "TO LET" sign up recently, which just needed the letter i put in the middle of the 2 words. Have honestly seen people sniffing cocaine off the bar in here, which sums this place up. Crap beer, crap regulars, crap pub. Enough said. Avoid

The Richmal Crompton, Bromley

This place is great for me, as it attracts all the Bromley chav's at the weekend, so I can go to another place and enjoy my evening. I do have to applaud this place though, for it's selection of ale's, and their prices, which are incredibly cheap. There was 8 different ale's on at one time, I can't honestly think of another place I have ever been to with such a wide choice. Just a shame it feels a bit pikey, and lacks atmosphere

Ye Olde Leather Bottle, Northfleet

Not really a lovely pub, more of a "boozer". Poor selection of real ale, the only one being Landlord, which was incredibly warm, so then attempted a Guinness which was terrible. Not a place for someone who really enjoys good beer, but definately a place to go if you would enjoy a good punch up.

The Tigers Head, Bromley

This place used to be very busy when they had a late license, but then the knuckle dragging Bromley chavs had a few punch up's over who was the most stupid, and the license was revoked to a normal pub license. It's been on the way down ever since, the furniture is falling apart, the toilets are filthy, the food in un-edible, and not a single real ale for sale. No atmosphere at all, the only positive thing is the pool tables, but they have gone up in price to 1.50 per game. Struggling to say anything nice about this place at all, so I won't. One to walk past as quickly as possible.

The Waterside, Cowes

The place really lets it's setting down enormously, it's in such a prime spot, and deserves so much more. Food is truly awful, and they really give the impression that they don't want to be at work. Bad decor, and a toilet that needs a good clean. Avoid this place, there are better pubs in the area that will make you feel welcome

The Brixton Bar and Grill, Brixton

Nice enough bar to look at, but the staff really should lay off smoking ganja, they were all wasted which is far from ideal. Barman could not understand what 2 pints of pilsner was, and kept on asking. Waited over an hour and a half for food, which never turned up, and had to get a refund. Certainly not a place to go if you are hungry. Strange shared toilet system, cubicles only, can't imagine women are too happy with this arrangement.

The Old Jail, Cudham

Lovely old place to enjoy a drink, but not the same since it became a restaurant/pub. Good pint of Sussex to be had, as well as London Pride, and in general the beer is kept well here. Spacious beer garden, nice in the summer months. Food is very good for a pub, but over-priced considerably.

Such a shame that pub's like this need to become restaurants to survive, but if it stays open, then that's fantastic.

The Fox and Hounds, Biggin Hill

What a dump this place is, and it's full of chav's as well. Look at the wrong person and you might not have a nice evening! I would not go back, even if the beer was free.

23 Apr 2009 16:59

The Swan and Mitre, Bromley

Not a pub to go to if you want a decent pint, beer is absolutely crap in here! Pretty decent atmosphere though, and a large beer garden for us outcast smokers to enjoy. Would only eat in here if I was feeling suicidal, I have seen the chef's hygiene standards, which are third world standards!

A good atmosphere on a Friday or Saturday night though, and seems to be free of the many chavs who frequent Bromley, one of the better places to have a drink

The Tom Foolery, Bromley

A very nice place to enjoy a nice pint. Good selection of Fullers Ale's, along with some good lagers, especially the Franziskaner Weissbiere. A little more expensive than other bar's in the area, but this appears to have got rod of the chav element, and left a nice mix of drinkers, so it has had a positive impact. Good atmosphere, and good food, worth paying a little extra for I think. Although this place does have the smallest, and worst beer garden I have ever seen!

Sunday afternoon can be a little annoying when football is on, due to people insisting on shouting at TV's (they can't answer back you mongs!), so if you want a quiet sunday lunchtime pint, this may not be for you sometimes, on the whole though, well worth a visit.

24 Mar 2009 08:33

The Black Horse, Biggin Hill

Definately an improvement from years gone by, but that wasn't too hard, as it's always been an utter dump! Decent pint of Young's, at a decent price, but the landlord has a particularly big mouth, and just doesn't shut up, which can put you off.

7 Mar 2009 17:30

Bromley's, Bromley

Surprised it lasted as long as it did! What a big failure compared to the Bell, which consistently took over 20k a week. Not at all sad to see it closed.

7 Mar 2009 17:26

The Partridge, Bromley

Good range of Fuller's ale's HSB, ESB, Discovery, and well kept beer. Nice quiet place for a decent pint, but it's a bit of an old man's pub! Friendly staff and customers are a bonus, and fairly good value too.

7 Mar 2009 17:23

Henry's Cafe Bar, Bromley

Not a bad place to be honest. Nice Peroni on tap, and Guinness, just a bit expensive. Nice to have some fairly decent tapa's from here as well. No ale which is a shame. Please get rid of the toilet attendant though, I have never struggled to turn on a tap, and don't need the help!

7 Mar 2009 17:20

TP's, Bromley

Awful place, just awful. Full of chavs, terrible beer, but at least keeps the chavs out of some of the better pubs in Bromley. One to avoid, unless you like tacky themed pubs, and a punch up.
