Hey it's our local pub, if you don't like what they are doing, fair enough, but don't diss the locals like that, not very polite.

The Embassy, Islington

5.50 for a 175 ml glass of wine?
Having a laugh or what....

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

A great pub, their own beers are wonderful, we had the chocolate, union, wheat and porter, all extremely drinkable. We would have had more but it's a long way back to Harringey. Their list of bottled beers is not too shabby either. Well worth a visit if you're down Sarf Lunnen way.

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

I beg to differ. I'm not a troll but a genuine fan of the Wenlock Arms. I've been drinking in there for years and didn't know that you had to leave a rating every time.... you live and you learn

Cigano and brewer in the same sentence? Doubt it really. If he is what he says he is, please, tell us who you brew for... GK perhaps?

The Eagle, Hoxton

Sort out the gents toilets please.
On Saturday evening they stank to high heaven.

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

For those of you still complaining about the smell of the gents, I'd say you should visit the Eagle. The stench in the gents on Saturday evening put the Wenlock in the ha'penny place. Dear Lord it was gruesome, and they only had Pride on....

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

Quiz last night. Great beer, cracking salt beef sandwiches. What more could you ask for.............. Best pub in N1 by miles!

8 Aug 2008 15:02

Yates's Wine Lodge, Wood Green

Take a walk down St Anns Road and turn right into Hermitage Road and find the Oakdale Arms.......... the only decent pub in the area.

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

Thebman should realise that this is a pub not a wine bar
If you don't like it ,,,,,,,,,,, feck off
Get a sense of humour or go to Pitcher & Piano.........

The John Baird, Muswell Hill

Nice but..............
When a customer points out a lack of toilet paper in the ladies...
Do something within minutes and don't ignore the problem

The Horse and Panniers, Rutland

Wonderful pub, good beer, good food, friendly staff. Would highly recommend anyone visiting this part of England to visit here. Rooms are available at reasonable rates and breakfast is good(real sausages and bacon from local suppliers). Two beers on hand-pump with another available in high-season. All-in-all a gem!

In de Wildeman, Amsterdam

Easily the best place to drink beer in Amsterdam

Little Les's birthday beer was top class........
As was everything else.

The Palace Bar, Temple Bar

Easily the best pub in Dublin... looking forward to visiting next Saturday night See you ther Chris and Meredith!

15 Dec 2007 00:49

The Pride of Spitalfields, Shoreditch

We were in there last Thursday and nearly didn't go for a curry because of the Brewer's Gold, which in the past has been our downfall....... We bravely struggled away after three pints but that was hard work... best beer in this part of London by a mile..... ho and there was Doom Bar on as well!!!!!

14 Dec 2007 23:52

The Old Fountain, Old Street

topdog-andy needs to get his eyes tested.....
he didn't see thw london pride (always on) or the summer lightning...
as for the new carpets they just got cleaned after the smoking ban... the crab sandwiches have been off the menu since 1975..
and the dart-board is for the use of the team that represents the pub in a london league and is available to anyone who asks on quiet evenings ( mon/tues) when the bar-staff will happily move the tables (at lunch-time darts in the head can sometimes cause offence to people who are eating)
he might even want to join the darts team...

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

Saturday night with mad Italians and Finns and 10 month old tally ho what more could a man ask for except a taxi home............ had to take a 341 instead but you can't blame that on the Wenlock.......

17 Aug 2007 00:04

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

I think that theregent doesn't like going to pubs, judging by his/her other postings on BITE...
Get a nice glass of dry white wine and stay at home......

30 Jul 2007 22:10

The Garden Ladder, Harringay

Better after the smoking ban....
But sort out the music please...
Mel and Kim at full tilt at 10 on a Sunday night... I ask you!!!!

16 Jul 2007 21:51

The Ship Aground, Clapton

the water that runs by both pubs is not a canal
it is the river lea or lee
which runs from luton and other places outside the great metropolis...

20 May 2007 23:02

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

too many beers go away too quickly get some kilderkins in!!!
please %-)

Sorry, I should have been more careful with the punctuation, but it was in the wee small hours...

" Too many beers go away too quickly, get some kilderkins in!! "

firkin = 9 gallons
kilderkin = 18 gallons
barrel = 36 gallons
hogshead = 54 gallons

never enough = always as far as good beer is concerned!!

Three Compasses, Hornsey

the music on Saturday afternoon/ early evening could not be described as unobtrusive.... when you have to walk out on early Roxy Music and Lloyd Cole and the Commotions due to the volume and leave beer behind...

1 Apr 2007 22:14

Messrs Maguire, Dublin

Went in last summer, bought two pints of their own brews, tasted said pints, left them behind and walked out. Crap beer and filthy toilets. Why anyone would go in there is beyond me. An american friend wasin ther just before Christmas and reported that they didn't have any of their own brews on sale at all. Lucky him!

18 Feb 2007 18:20

The Garden Ladder, Harringay

Former Indian restaurant turned into a pub
/diner with Directors and two guest beers.
Good food and the beer tends to be on the good side...
However the music is not aimed at the clientele and you might need to bring earplugs....
Amd give Thursday night a miss. it's open decks night and there doesn't seem to be any restriction on the volume
And it's very smokey :-(

27 Jan 2007 21:40

The Oakdale Arms, Harringay

Best pub in Harringay by a country mile. Deservedly winner of CAMRA North London Pub of the year. A bit, or even a lot, smokey but it's worth it for the quality of the beer. They've stopped doing food but we were told that "You are welcome to bring in a takeaway" and the quiz on Thursdays is very competitive..

27 Jan 2007 21:03

White Lion Of Mortimer, Finsbury Park

It's a bit of a tip but if you fancy a pint of Hoegaarden at 2.69 and sit in the no-smoking area, well it ain't that bad. But just stay for one!

27 Jan 2007 20:51

The Flag, Crouch Hill

Nice pub but very expensive, 4.35 for a pint of Hoegaarden, 13 for a rib-eye steak and then 10% service on top of that.
It might be priced like that to keep the locals from the nearby council estate out but it will also keep us out too, and it's smoking all throughout as well (roll on the1st of July :-) )

27 Jan 2007 20:48

The Old Fountain, Old Street

Now in The CAMRA Good Beer Guide!

31 Oct 2006 11:18

Three Compasses, Hornsey

best no smoking pub (partially) in the (o smoking) area big sign saying ... "if you can read this you are in a no smoking area" good unprentitious menu with daily specials and good real ale and if the food service is slow sit back and have another beer.....
or go to some of the "local chains" in crouch end
sometimes the music can be too loud
however it's in the good beer guide and deseveredly so
