I'm afraid to say I was coerced into this place by a friend one late afternoon and was served a rather magnificent breakfast for 3.50 and a reasonable pint of Guinness (for about the same amount). The experience was marred only by the annoying 'audio-visual entertainment' and the fact that I knew within a couple of hours it would evolve into a monsterous pit of small-town, binge-drinking, adolescent hell. Needless to say I left sharpish and got heartburn.

The Ivy House, Holborn, London
I started to use the Ivy House when the Princess Louise closed for the refurb and I have to say it's a much nicer place than I remember it a couple of years ago. The staff are friendly and there's a reasonably good selection of beer (mainly lagers). They often have Harvey's on draught too. The restaurant was recommended by a Thai friend and I have to say that it was the best experience I've had with Thai food (and very reasonable). However, I shall be returning to the Princess Louise when it re-opens as it just feels more like a proper pub.

The Princess is a favourite of mine. The beer is good, the landlord is a nice bloke and the decor is what I expect from a proper London pub - Victorian and a bit tatty with lots of brass and mirrors. I particularly like the atmosphere prior to the evening rush when you can sit and contemplate the surroundings as it slowly fills. Can get very busy. However, on a warm evening, I'm not adversed to standing outside as it's window sill can also be very accomodating, allowing me to spot details in the surrounding buildings I've never seen before.

I hadn't been to the Enterprise for a while and, whilst I generally loathe refurbs, I must say they've done a top job. They have an evening tapas type menu which looked appealing and we had a very relaxing evening. However I returned two nights later and it was a completely different atmosphere with some sort of annoyingly loud dance music and full of city types falling over (to be strictly fair I only witnessed one calamity but we left early, tired of the shouting). Seems to depend what part of the week you visit to what kind of evening you'll have. Overall though, good service, good beer and plesent surroundings.

The Bedford Lounge used to be Currys (who are always cutting prices, apparently). It had more appeal than it has now.

Yate's, Bedford
I am thoroughly embarrassed to admit that I was, once again, coerced into this establishment on this occasion a quiet Tuesday night, just as some football had finished on the big telly. Just for the record then, it remains a
monsterous pit of small-town-binge-drinking-adolescent-hell.
