Aside from the lack of smoke, and a slightly updated attire of the patrons this is a classic 1970's pub, though and through. Mainly locals, friendly enough. The only place in Lewes with people in on New Year's Day!
Six pumps on, Harvey's Best of course and then a selection of (unknown to me) mico's, plus Thatchers, the ubiquitous Guinness and Kroenbourg for the larger types. Staff were young, but eager enough.
Not sure Harvey's was at it's best though, which is a shame given it's the local keg.

Walking on the Downs? You just have to come down to Plumpton and visit. On our visit (New Year's Day) the atmosphere was friendly, service exceptional, good choice of Beers (Harvey's Best in good condition) and a great kitchen. Late on the day they were suffering with some food running short, but the chef got creative and we had a gorgeous feast in front of as real roaring log fire. So good we stayed the afternoon rather than continuing the walk!
This pub changed hands around the start of December, now run by two lovely ladies with great ideas for bringing the reputation back up to where it should be. It's a real walkers pub again, but good for a casual pint or lunch.
Did I mention a full round of Stilton and crackers on the bar? Dangerous!!

The Duke of Cambridge, Islington
Good Organic beers - Freedom and Pitfields both on tap and well kept. Good choice of bottles including local and German wheats.
Buzzing atmosphere, where friends meet, papers are read and beer is enjoyed. Not cheap, but given the area, not silly.
Food menu is daily, usually great but varies based on what can be sourced so don't go back for the same again. Now and again it can be uninspiring, but then there's the Narrowboat down the road for a good roast.
