The Central Bar, Shepherds Bush

Agree with most of the previous posters. Nice and cheap, convenient for the cinema and the tube station. The staff are friendly and the place is like a microcosm of society. From the cheapskate suits who come here for a cheap eat to the guy in the hood who won't take his eyes of your new phone and is distracting your attention from the old man who has wet himself and is trying to romance your girlfriend. This place has the lot. Don't expect too much. just come here in a group and have a meal and a couple of head start pints before heading off somewhere nicer and you won't be disappointed.

Pickwicks Wine Bar, Chiswick

I finally looked in on this place recently having overlooked it for many years. On first impressions it looked charming! Unfortunately the beer, surly staff, uncomfortable seats and bizzare live music wasn't. It didn't make me want to give it another chance.

The Bollo, Chiswick

Good drink, great food and very friendly staff. Monday night half price meals is now pretty much a weekly appointment.

George IV, Chiswick

Fair selection of lagers (If overpriced) and a moderate selection of ales. The food has never disappointed, nor has it particularly excited. The staff, although polite, have never become in any way familiar despite many years of patronage. The pub does have a dartboard which is usually put to good use and is a redreshing change to the rest of Chiswick in which gastro pubs have all but killed off any kind of pub sports. The pub is popular and usually has a good atmosphere but it is to be avoided on a football night unless it is warm enough to make use of the beer garden or you are interested in seeing the game. However, the real strength of The George IV is its back room. This little gem, hidden away behind a set of double doors next to the toilets, plays host to a fantastic and good value comedy club that, every so often, attracts a big name comedian. There are also a couple of good monthly live music nights such as Wired on a thursday and Blue flowers on a sunday that always provide a good night and have hosted and continue to host some seriously talented acts such as Sam Beer, Laura Marling, Jamie T etc (all can be heard on myspace.com). All in all, one of the best pubs in chiswick. Choose the right night and you'll have a blast!
