The Prince of Wales, Stow Maries

The Prince Of Wales has always been an outstanding boozer but now I've stayed in one of their rooms they've gone up another notch. The decor was modern, fresh and comfortable, the service was accomadating and friendly and the cooked breakfast was very impressive too (with no snooze- interrupting time requirements).

Thanks Prince. As always the beer and food were tip top.

The Eagle Ale House, Clapham

I stumbled across the Eagle at the weekend and was highly impressed. A great selection of ale including 30 varieties on as part of their beer festival. This is a pub with a cosy, relaxed vibe and a nice line in labrador. Very much a traditional pub sort of pub, it was a struggle to tear ourselves away. We will be going back to this South London gem soon even though it's a bit of a trek.

The Priory Arms, Stockwell

Seems like some changes are afoot here. The food is good and the ale drinker is still well served which is a relief. The new friendly owners were very welcoming on a recent visit. Talk of an upstairs and a smoker's balcony. Currently still a good mix of drinkers.

The Three Mariners, Oare

It looks like the new owners here have made their mark. Good beer, tasty food and a friendly atmosphere. They're making the most of this characterful building. Thoroughly recommended.

The Coach and Horses, Clapham

A great pub with a cosy atmosphere that has been taken over by new owners before Christmas. Good selection of ales but I have a major gripe with wines only being sold in large glasses now. When I asked the owner why I wasn't given a choice with glass sizes he said it was to make more money. It would be nice to have a choice and it has put me off going in there.

The Trinity Arms, Brixton

Love this pub. It's a regular stopping off point, rendez vous and oasis - and not just for narrow-minded people who find Brixton terrifying after 3.45pm. The staff are friendly and efficient, the bar is well laid out and food in the evening and lunchtime adds an extra reason to linger. Guest beers would be a nice addition but Youngs Special will do fine for now (plus the Youngs wine list is ok too).

A little treasure.

The Sultan, South Wimbledon

I enjoyed the three rooaring fires which were very welcome on a miserable December Saturday. I thought the staff and (admittedly mainly male) clientele were very friendly and it was a cosy vibe indeed. The Hop Back ales are all good, no guest ales during my visit and food would have tempted me to stay longer.
