The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich

Visited two days ago and what a great find. Food was excellent with a choice of fish, I had a nice piece of battered cod and my wife a large sea bass. Starters were great with homemade veg soup and a large bowl of nacho's. the 12 cheese selection cheese board for4 a tenner for desert was nice, although 12 cheeses were actually 10 but still it was to big for us both to finish. Excellent selection of beers and the barman was very freindly and the landlord made a point of saying goodnight as we left.

Really is worth a vist, 5 mins from O2 or get a bus 472 and its two minutes. Not the easiest place to locate by car due to silly apprach road rules.

Garden looks nice, will be back there in summer to visit.

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

Used to be a semi regular here for a number of years and always tried to take friends here to sample beers when they are in Greenwich. Odd as although in the pub twice a week for the whole evening, never once was this fact shown in the faces of the staff of manager, who it seems don't do regulars! One thing that is noticable is the high level of staff turnover and the lack of friendiness of the staff. Weekends in daytime seems more like a kindergarden then a pub with large designer pushchairs and toddlers running around place. Stopped going as now full of prentenious drama students as customers and drama students as staff and food has gone downhill (fish and chips was just two small battered cods and steak arrived without sauce as had run out on last visit) Staff have no time for you unless you look like them or their drama student friends. As I look like a geezer, never made to feel welcome, despite trying to chat to manager and staff. Pity really, their loss as although look like south london geezer, I work as pro theatre director and cast for major theatre tours around UK. If any of the staff and drama student customers had been one inch friendly, they may have found this out themselves, but then again, don't think I want to be accepted by that lot now anyway! Now drink in Plumb and Feathers which is cosy, friendly and treated like a regular. The Union has lost its local secret charm and take away the excellent beer and everything else is awful about this place.

Brockley Jack, Brockley

First visit was two weeks ago to this pub to see a play at the little theatre there, tried to order food and was told by landlord that in his opinion, food would not be ready in time for start of show, as he was so honest and friendly, we felt fine about this and decided as the food looked nice on the menu, we would venture here again just to sample the food and came back on a Saturday night a week later. The landlord although a very busy pub reconised us and said hello and was very welcoming. The place is very friendly and the rear of the pub is quiet and great for food, we had a rustic starter to share with cut ham and followed by two nice steaks and great selection of desserts. On the night we went back, they had live latino music at one end and staff really freindly, with landlord and chef both coming out for a chat and making sure everything OK. Really nice decor, leather chairs, going back again as they have a pie night on wednesdays which looks good. Really good selection of wines. Great little find and perfect night especially with a fringe theatre attached to it.
