Excellent venue, if not the easiest to find, look to your right as you make your way up to the castle/jail. Reportedly the building dates from the 17th. century and it is situated in the wine vaults of an old house. Nice selection of ales and a fine pint of a Belgian white beer, Hoegaarden, which I can highly recommend. They also served a lovely beef and onion baguette. Not the cheapest baguette I've ever had but very nice. Ate it in the beer-garden infront of the pub and spent a pleasant hour watching the world go by.

Excellent place, eight real ales, a selection of continental premium lagers, chatty and helpful staff. Rather small and could be rather crowded and noisy quite easily. I didn't try the food but I have no hesitation recommending The Palatine.

Morecambe Hotel, Morecambe
A pub to avoid I'm afraid, even though I managed to have three pints for 3 (promotional offer, then the barrel ran dry!). It didn't look the cleanest of places (my wife refused to visit the toilets) and not the friendliest of atmospheres.
