Hmm well surely people should be able to make their own minds up about it taking into consideration the negative comments??! It isn't a bad pub - just mundane and boring with miserable staff and a rude and extremely dodgy landlord who is up to no good most of the time.

This is such a wonderful pub. Full of character and great people. A great night out on a weekend and also good for quieter beers during the week. Can't fault it - the only REAL pub left in Guildford and I hope it stays that way. The landlord is crazy but in such a quirky and marvelous way - the way landlords should be. Keep up the good work!!

Oh dear. This was once such a wonderful pub with lots of character (some would say too much!!) and a lot of charm. It was very unique to say the least. What the hell has happened?? The owner is rude and unpleasant and I have personally seen him shouting at staff in front of all the punters - now that makes for a nice quiet beer doesn't it?! It has lost everything that made it the pub it was for all these years and is now unappealingly bright with nothing more going for it than all the other lifeless pubs. Shame.

The Royal Oak, Guildford
dominoeffect - this isn't a personal attack at you. I don't know you or anyone else who works there. This website is a pub rating website. The point of it is that you can see what customers think of the pub. I am simply giving my opinion.
The Royal Oak used to be an amazing, quirky pub run by great people with bubbly, friendly staff. It had a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The beer was great (with a guest ale that was usually pretty fitting for the time of year etc).
From my, a punter, point of view things have changed - that atmosphere that made the pub it was has gone and watching the landlord barking at the staff (which I have personally witnessed) doesn't make for a nice relaxing pint.
Try not to be appauled - there are much more pressing things in life to worry about than a beer forum!!
