Ye Olde Six Bells, Horley

Was in for lunch today with an old chum. Ale OK, food zero. The "Bells" was one of our airport pubs back in the late 60s etc., now tis just a "I think I'm a gastro pub" location.

Tudor Rose, Coulsdon

Poor old Bobsmithswig, does all that having to read cause 'brainhurtz'. The reason there are signs there, is to tell you to comply with the house rules, if you can't comply, go to the Fox.

The Village Inn, Caterham

Popped in the other lunch time ! Stank of stale cooking oil, no real beer, scruffy chav type staff, scruffy furniture ! No way forward, this is still a chav/pikey/ex squaddie boozer :~(
It'll never change, not enough folks in the area, that'll stay in the area for this sort of boozer, for that is what it is, a scruffy lowlife folks boozer :~(

The Gipsy Moth, Croydon

Hog's Back T E A in bad nick, tis a typical South London pikey/Chav boozer, service slow & scruffy.

The Red Lion, Turners Hill

Don't like the bogs, use the hedge. Great pub very many happy summer bashes there with a good old trad jazz band (or nearly a band) Been going there since the late 60s, got brainhurtz, but ain't dead. Great pub.

The Fountain Inn, Handcross

Full of shirt lifters, not the village pub it was. Keep the LGW shirt lifters out of our village.

Wattenden Arms, Kenley

Grubby, more like a run down New Town estate pub that got left behind. Supposed WW-II memorabilia is just a few photographs etc. Food is typical cheap 'Iceland freezer' stuff badly prepared and presented. Cleanliness in the bar areas is not up to standard. Not worth a visit.

The Swan, Bromham

Ale in good nick, food typical industrial catering standard. Requested extra gravy for my bangers & mash, no can do as all portion controlled, i.e. it all comes out of a plastic bag. Food here used to be very good, if the guy dressed up as a kitchen jocky couldn't knock up a portion of gravy, then he should not be in a kitchen!!!!

No return for me after yesterday.

Great shame, it's on it's way down a great rate of knots.

The Botley Hill Farmhouse, Warlingham

Nice pub, ale well kept. Food average especially fish as they boast of their associated company. Over priced, but considering this is "South Chav Land", 'tis worth it as no chavs seen on all my visits, which have been many. Great in the summer for ale & nosh half way enroute from Biggin airport to hovel. One wish, better applications in the kitchen with more realistic pricing.

The Fox, Caterham

For Countryboy who reviewed 01/01/07. Try the King & Queen in Caterhan-on-the-Hill Vilage. Has car park & lets dogs in!!!!! also serves food with Fullers ESB.

The King and Queen, Caterham

This is a Fuller's pub, 'tis a village local and one can ask no more than that. Considering what else is in a short drive or a walk away, this is a good village boozer.

The Clifton Arms, Caterham

Called in last evening, first time, was pleased. Beer (Fuller LP) in good nick. No shouting or screaming. Very friendly and a new (15 min away) local for me.

The Flight Tavern, Lowfield Heath

Though I agree this is a good pub, it still hurts when I visit as this was our Gatwick Aero Club. A private club where we (all airlines, customs and all airport staff) all could meet, even in uniform for a post duty get together. Times do change and the Flt Tav is good value and great in the summer.

The Five Bells, Chailey

Just by chance a drive by visit after a sweaty day day on the beach, I hadn't been into the pub since the mid 70s, found a terrific, friendly, good food, good drinks, good people experience. My Lady and I wished we'd had more time to eat more, food was super. Thanks to the owners a little bit of Northern France has landed in one of the nicest bits of the UK. The mix of the two works so, so well.

The Botley Hill Farmhouse, Warlingham

I rate this pub, others may not, but what do they expect on the outskirts of Croydon!!. Food is good, staff are good, location is good, BEER IS GOOD, and yes kids do like the fact there is a small animal feature. Also most everyone likes taking a pint in both the Eastern and Western hemisphere at the same time, It's on the Meridian. My industry chums and customers from a Global list like it. I have listed it on various industry websites for visiting crews to sample. Don't groan, it is a family pub for ALL AGES.

Thanks Botley Hill for some fun times.

Royal Oak Inn, Staffhurst Wood

This is a super pub, found by way of getting lost!!.
Great lunch, good ale and excellent service. The entry 24 Aug 2006 maybe has something to do with the handle of the postee of the comments. This has never been our (my girlfriend is very critical) experience.
Even back summer before last when "Paolo the Painter" kept us entertained in the back garden.

Thanks
