Simo07--it takes one to recognise one. This is a small country pub unchanged for the 40 something years I have lived in the area. It has the atmosphere of a country pub, the good beers associated with a country pub and the food is country pub style;e--very reasonably priced too. Try a plate of rabbit or steak and ale pie with loads of vegetables for 6.00 on a Thursday night.
I wish there were more pubs in the area like it!

Refurbished in the period 2008/9 this is less of a pub and more of a superb restaurant specializing in locally caught and very fresh fish. Beautiful location in the south Downs.
You can still just go there for a drink but if tempted to a meal be prepared to enjoy it--but at a price.

The "Hod" will be closed for major refurbishment from 18 March 2011 for about four months. It is now owned by a company set up by four local residents and when it reopens will be a free house serving real ales and good pub-type food.
After years of declining trade and reputation it is good news for the villagers who look forward to having a real country pub to attend in future.

Good location. Two bars with another dark room by the gents lavatory. Beers are ok. Food expensive. Ambiance almost non existent with frequently only young foreign-sounding girls serving food and drinks. Little sign of the landlord.

Massive and extended renovation during summer of 2011. Due for reopening as a traditional country village pub in August. Now a Free House and details of beers and menus to come later.
