The Duchess of Kent, Barnsbury
This place is a bit weird - the food is odd (what is going on with those scotch eggs?) and the atmosphere seems to be rather down. That said, the beer is at least well-kept.

Probably the best place for a drink in Holloway - nice pub, good selection of drinks (compared to other pubs in the area).

A nice enough place with character and decent drinks. The food is OK - fish and chips are pretty good. Definitely at its best on a weekday night, the queueing system is a bit annoying at weekends.

A slightly odd pub/restaurant, the saving grace of which is the fantastic beer garden. Worth it for a quiet beer on a sunny day, not worth it for the overpriced and underwhelming food.

A rare thing in Islington: Just a pub. A couple of decent well-kept beers on tap and friendly, unpretentious folk.

The Junction Tavern, Kentish Town
A good pub with good food and good beer. Only real let down ever has been the roast beef we had last Sunday, which wasn't great, but was taken off the bill immediately and without fuss when pointed out. Had about 6 other dishes between us, all of which were good or better.

Used to enjoy drinking at this pub, but it's gone seriously downhill. On our most recent visit, only half the food we ordered actually arrived. The staff were seriously rude and unhelpful. Half the beers were off - no real ale - and the new selection of wine is poor. The white wine we ordered was served warm - didn't feel like complaining about this after the passive-aggressive response we got when pointing out that our food hadn't turned up.

The Hen and Chickens, Islington
Decent enough place for a post-work Islington pint. Better than the local competition - as other posters have noted.
