The Red Lion, Bristol

Great little pub this is. Choice of 4 ever changing ales, we tried a Beerd IPA and a RAW JR bitter. Also had a box of rough cider on the bar along with Thatchers Gold. Pool table with a smoking area out the back. Defo the best pub of the day in this area by a long chalk.

The Kings Head, Bristol

Oh dear, its ME that's wrong! That review below is for the pub down the road called The White Hart, these are the perils of drinking whilst reviewing.... My review for this place is: Large U shaped pub with Sky sports on big tv's, all freshly done out with a large beer patio out the front which was well used for a Wednesday afternoon. Bath ales Gem or Doom Bar for ale, although Blackthorn looked to be the best selling drink in the pub.

The Kings Head, Bristol

Ignore the one below, I think they're on about the Kings Head in town! This one I went in yesterday, large pub With a pool table out the back but empty and the bar choice is thatchers gold, fosters or red stripe, all the other beer taps are just for show! Had a small stage with drum kit set up, reggae bands and dj's perform on the weekend. Very much rough round the edges as pubs go.

11 Jul 2013 16:26

The Whitehall, Bristol

Owned by the same people that run the Longbar, Mardyke and the Coronation so expect cheap prices. It's even painted the same colour as the Mardyke, must of got a job lot on the paint! Small beer garden out the back for the smokers. I had a courage Directors, it was wallet friendly. For atmosphere I probably preferred the Red Lion around the corner.

The Air Balloon Tavern, St George

Massive, high ceilinged, cavernous pub... Which was empty! Now, I'm not a big fan of gastropubs, but its the sort of pub which if it was in another area of Bristol it would of been gastrofied by now. Which could be an avenue they should go down, because if its this busy all week it wont last much longer. Courage Best was the ale on but I went for safety and plumped for the Thatchers Gold.

19 Jun 2013 20:15

The Lord Raglan, St George

Another pub which is fairly typical of Hanham and Kingswood. Very local! Although we didn't feel we were 'stared at' when we called in. I went for the Thatchers Gold, my mates had the Ale but can't remember what was on (Sorry!) Busy for a Tuesday night.

19 Jun 2013 20:02

The Trooper, Bristol

A real old style boozer, nothing really right or wrong with it. 3 pumps on. A generous 6/10.

19 Jun 2013 19:54

The Swan Inn, Hanham

Best pub that I went in on my trip around Hanham and Kingswood, Not as spit and sawdust as most of the pubs around this area and a decent selection of beer. Also the only pub I saw with copies of CAMRA Pints West magazine. Nice garden too.

19 Jun 2013 19:41

The Jolly Sailor, Hanham

Small Wetherspoons which is over 2 floors. It is one of the less scruffy pubs in Hanham. Usual low JDW prices, beer choice was alright.

19 Jun 2013 19:36

19 Jun 2013 19:36

The Blue Bowl, Hanham

A large, busy 'laminated menu' food based pub which had 2 ales on, with Thatchers Gold for cider drinkers. Only 1 person serving so took about 5 minutes to get served.

19 Jun 2013 19:26

The Star, Kingswood

Nice clean pub with Sky Sports and (I think) 3 ales on, no where near as grim as the pubs on Two Mile Hill. Busy for a Tuesday afternoon. 7/10

19 Jun 2013 19:17

The Black Horse, Kingswood

Large pub with a juke box and dartboard. Only ale on was Courage best, I went for a Thatchers Gold instead. Didn't encounter this rude landlord that everyone seems to go about.

19 Jun 2013 19:14

Kingswood Collier, Kingswood

Smartest pub on the high street, choice of 6 ales on when we were there, which were all around £2.20 a pop. Busy for a Tuesday afternoon, didn't seem too chavvy for a Wetherspoons.

19 Jun 2013 19:10

Kings Arms Hotel, Kingswood

A T shaped one bar pub with a bit of a trip to find the toilets. Two Ales on, although one had just gone when we arrived, Thatchers on too. They had the racing on whilst we were there. Would I go back? Probably not...

19 Jun 2013 19:04

The Malt and Hops, Taunton

Only one real ale when I has here, much more of a Fosters type pub, massive garden out the back.... Alright for a quick one, then quickly move on to the Racehorse.

21 Apr 2013 19:39

The Plough Inn, Taunton

Long thin pub with the entrance door down the side of the building, good selection of beers and ciders, pieminister pies if you're hungry, whats not to like?

21 Apr 2013 19:31

The Racehorse Inn, Taunton

Found a surprisingly large rear garden here, bit of a suntrap. Usual St. Austell beer range and that's a good thing by the way. One of the best pubs on our visit to Taunton.

21 Apr 2013 19:27

Perkin Warbeck, Taunton

Yep, its a long pub. With the 'normal' wetherspoon costumers too. Better pubs about...

21 Apr 2013 19:22

The Princess Royal, Taunton

PS its defo worth more than that 3/10 rating. Its average, that's what I'd say.

21 Apr 2013 19:20

The Princess Royal, Taunton

It is in a bit of a time warp, like walking into a 1981 pub, but the beer was alright and I'd prefer to go in here than a Pitcher and Piano!

21 Apr 2013 19:16

Ring of Bells, Taunton

Didn't know what to expect after reading previous reviews. I thought it was one of the best pubs in Taunton, with a good choice of beers. Certainly going up in the world as my friend who tends to get a potty mouth after a few pints was told to watch his language, that's always a good sign!

21 Apr 2013 19:11

The Royal Hop Pole, Tewkesbury

Large 'Spooner' in the centre of town, went in here at midday on a Wednesday and it didn't feature the normal crowd you find in most wetherspoons at midday, that's gotta be a good sign! Good selection of ale and an outside garden area too.

21 Apr 2013 18:56

The Anchor, Tewkesbury

Thatchers Gold and 3 ales on. Busy for a Wednesday lunchtime. jukebox and tv if you like that sort of thing.

21 Apr 2013 18:49

Ye Olde Black Bear, Tewkesbury

I know its in the GBG but I didn't rate the atmosphere of the place. Its all a bit too much laminated menus and shot deals even though they had 4 ales on, so quite a choice, but I think I'd rather go somewhere else.

21 Apr 2013 18:43

The Albion Inn, Tewkesbury

Large friendly pub with a choice of Stowford Press and GL cider, Ale choice was Wadworths Henry IPA.

21 Apr 2013 18:32

White Bear, Tewkesbury

A sign of a good pub is an outside shithouse...... And this pubs got one! Good range of ales and ciders, I had a nice pint of Morgan. Was busy on a Wednesday evening although it doesn't open until 5.

21 Apr 2013 18:27

Elmbury Lodge, Ashchurch

Nearest pub to the railway station(5 minute walk) so a handy stop off if you've been on the pop in Tewkesbury and you're waiting for the train. It is a brewers fayre so don't expect too much. I had a 6X, it was okay.

21 Apr 2013 18:21

Old Road Tavern, Chippenham

Multi roomed boozer with a nice beer garden out the back and a pool table. A youngish but not chav like range of customers on our visit. Good beer range, lots to recommend about this place 7 and three quarters out of 10!

19 Jun 2012 17:16

The New Inn, Chippenham

Tiny pub with a friendly locals clientel and we were made to feel welcome. Handy for the station. Cant remember what I had to drink as it was late in the day.

19 Jun 2012 17:10

The Three Crowns, Chippenham

My favourite pub in Chippenham, great beer choice and friendly staff. I had a couple of pints of Arty Farty, had some real pork scratchers too, Nice! Dart board, log fire and dog friendly. This should be a template for all pubs everywhere.

19 Jun 2012 17:02

The Pelican, Devizes

Handy place to wait for the bus in, usual Wadworths beer. Lots of nooks and crannies in this pub although we missed out on the interesting locals, booo! Would they have gone home by 4?

19 Jun 2012 16:54

The Hare & Hounds, Devizes

Old School pub and good thing for it, friendly bar staff. Obviously it suffers from the Devizes curse of only selling Wadworths beer (I think I am being hard on Devizes here, I am sure that any town with a brewery will stick loyally to it and so they should!) I just think a little bit of choice wouldnt go a miss sometimes. Anyway, back to the pub, 7/10

19 Jun 2012 16:50

Lamb Inn, Devizes

Really liked this pub, the usual beer range for Devizes, I had a Red White and Brew. Great little garden out the back, good atmosphere too.

19 Jun 2012 16:43

Silk Mercer, Devizes

Another pub that doesnt have to tow the Wadworths/Devizes party line so you get a range of interesting ales, but its a Spooner so expect screaming kids and lots of them! 6 pumps on when I was there.

19 Jun 2012 16:38

The Three Crowns, Devizes

What a fun place this is, went in on a monday afternoon for a pint, choice is either 6X or Horizon. Oh, and Ruff Cider, I know this as there were three mid 60 year olds out of their mind on the stuff at 3 in the afternoon! Great fun to watch over a pint, and they sum up most of the clientel in the place. The only worry was, will that be me in 30 years time? Anyway, as a pub, bit of a dive, there are better places about in Devizes.

19 Jun 2012 16:34

The Bear Hotel, Devizes

The usual Wadworths range, what more do you expect in Devizes?! I had a Horizon, its an average beer. Nice pub though. everyone seemed okay, 7 out of ten.

19 Jun 2012 16:22

The British Lion, Devizes

Great range of beer, and its one of only a few pubs that is outside the strangle hold of Wadworths Devizes grip, so its got extra marks straight away! Cant comment on the atmosphere as we went in at midday on a Monday. I think they had 4 ales on, I had a pint of Moles Tap at a reasonable price. Three pints for around nine quid, thats reasonable, right?

19 Jun 2012 16:13

Baker Street, Gloucester

Had to stop off here coming back from the Linden Tree for a Toilet break. Toto dead but we did have a Doom Bar in average condition, but you do get a good view of the Old Pilot inn, there are some characters leaving that place!!

29 Jul 2011 21:03

The Water Poet, Gloucester

Great rear garden, good range of ales and cider with the usual cheap spooner prices but.... There is always a but! Bad service, always under staffed and it is soulless like most wetherspoons.

29 Jul 2011 20:57

The Teague's Bar, Gloucester

No real ale when we went but it is a sports based pub, gets busy on match days.

29 Jul 2011 20:53

The Lower George Inn, Gloucester

Bit of a strange one.... Wide choice of ales and when we went about 4 real ciders on too, it seems to do well with local Camra lot. There are just some pissed up wrong uns in there. How many 60 year olds do you see wearing tags? We saw two! But if you can ignore them the beer is good!

29 Jul 2011 20:51

Linden Tree, Gloucester

As everyone has said it is a trek from the station but it is worth the walk, i had a Wadworth strong in the Arm and their guest was Muddy Boot plus the usual suspects fron the Devizes brewer on the bar.

29 Jul 2011 20:44

Englands Glory, Gloucester

Our last pub of the day, typical Wadworth pub (which isnt a complaint) bit of a locals pub but still a nice friendly bunch in there. Cant remember what I drank though, might of been Strong in the arm, it was in good nick.

29 Jul 2011 20:38

Dick Whittington, Gloucester

4 ales on, nice atmosphere too. I am a little confused why this one isnt in the GBG, especially after we visited all the pubs that are and we all agreed that this one was the best of the day!!

29 Jul 2011 20:31

The Horse and Groom, Bristol

Three real Thatchers ciders plus the gold and a couple of ales, I had the Otter and it was in good condition. Also tucked into a Herberts bakery roll with my pint, Nice! Hopefully it might extend its opening hours.

19 Jul 2011 10:56

Grain Barge, Bristol

Really nice views, rather bland BBF beers, but everyone has got their views on the beer, and the Ashton Press is at 3.50 a pint, ouch!! Great belly of pork sunday lunch and a lovely if rather pricey cheese board. I like the place.

19 Jul 2011 10:51

19 Jul 2011 10:51

The Mardyke, Bristol

Cheap! and because of that it gets busy especially on the weekends when you can normally see a bit of drunken brawling. Not my sort of boozer but seems to be a bit of a destination for people who don't live in Hotwells.

19 Jul 2011 10:40

The Plume of Feathers, Bristol

Back open again and it seems to be entering a price war with the Mardyke! Offering pints at 1.50 between 5 and 8, still dead though. What I don't understand is why would you want the customers from the Mardyke anyway?!?!

19 Jul 2011 10:33

The Spring Gardens, Hotwells

Music based pub which gets busy when local bands are playing. Two ales on.

19 Jul 2011 10:26

The Merchants Arms, Hotwells

Bath Ales on tap and an ever changing guest ale, always friendly, with Little John being one of the best landlords in Brizzle. I dont think it use to have a log fire but its got one now.

19 Jul 2011 10:18

Dandy Lion, Bradford on Avon

Wadworths range of ales, seems to be more food based. Pleasent enough.

19 Jul 2011 09:54

The Castle, Bradford on Avon

Large range of Beer, I think I had a Mallard which was nice enough. Large beer garden and open early doors too, I was in there at 10 yesterday and they were serving, that gets the thumbs up from me! Nice breakfast. Only down side is its a trek up the hill.

19 Jul 2011 09:48

The Olive Tree, Frome

I was fearing this might of been more of a restaurant after reading previous reviews but I think it stilll retains a pub like feel. I had a good pint of Tribute.

19 Jul 2011 09:41

The Crown and Sceptre, Frome

I thought I had gone back in time to the mid 80s when I walked in here. No real ale but a few ciders on offer. It is what it is.... Which is a locals cider house.

19 Jul 2011 09:33

The Griffin, Frome

GBG listed so the beer was obviously in good condition, I had the Funky Monkey which was a tasty drop. Dogs are aloud in. I went there on a Monday and it opened at 5 so no lunch time scooping to be had here.

19 Jul 2011 09:27

The Sun Inn, Frome

Butcombe on tap and a big choice of ciders, big beer garden if you're on the oily rags. Old school pub, but there is nothing wrong with that!

19 Jul 2011 09:18

The Lamb and Fountain, Frome

Nice locals pub with a lovely view from the back room of Frome. Doom Bar on tap which was nice enough.

19 Jul 2011 09:14

The George Hotel, Frome

Wadworth beers, a bit run down. Think I paid 3.20 a pint. Alright for a swift one but nothing more than that.

19 Jul 2011 09:08

Archangel, Frome

Nice place and the Butcombe was in good condition, but when you're paying nearly four quid a pint it should be! Did have guest ale on but cant remember what it was. Poshest place in Frome.

19 Jul 2011 09:04

The Cricketers, Swindon

I didnt think much of this place, especially when you've got the Gluepot across the square. It was full of lagered up numpties. Maybe I visited it on a bad night?

15 Feb 2011 14:10

The Glue Pot, Swindon

Visited this place on a Sunday night and it was empty yet chavvy The Cricketers across the square was heaving!! Very strange, as they serve decent beer and cider in the Gluepot. I see some people are moaning about the prices but three quid pints are becoming the norm these days, I know its not nice on the wallet but it could be worse, look at London. Its nearer 4 up there..... Hmmm. Unfortunately, after re-reading what I've just typed it looks like I've become resigned to the 3 pound pint.... Bloody hell, they've won.

15 Feb 2011 14:03

The White Horse, Twerton

Busy pub with friendly staff, I had the Blackthorn whilst my friends both had the Otter which they thought was in good nick. Oh, and its not that far up the hill boys, I was expecting a trek when I saw some of the comments, its nothing to worry about.

14 Feb 2011 15:58

The Royal Oak, Bath

Nice enough place, had a big range with 9 beers on but it was dead as a Dodo on a Sunday, we were the only people in there so it was lacking atmosphere. We only stayed for the one.

14 Feb 2011 15:50

The Charmbury Arms, Twerton

Went in here whilst on a crawl around Twerton and would happily go back. A couple of Sharps brews on the pumps with Stowford Press and Black Rat for the apple fans. Pool and darts for pub sport, I won two games of Killer, check me out!

14 Feb 2011 15:44

The Golden Fleece, Bath

One to put on your list. A couple of barrels on the Bar for real ale, big tv's to watch the rugby on and a tidy Sunday lunch for 7 quid. I didnt clock any meatheads whilst I was there.... unless I am a meathead too!

14 Feb 2011 15:39

The Full Moon, Twerton

Chav pub with no real ale so went for a Blackthorn , but can't complain too much as it was serving at 1130 on a Sunday, it saved us from having to walk about in the rain until twelve for the White Horse to open, happy days.

14 Feb 2011 15:33

The Old Crown Inn, Twerton

Not a bad boozer although a little run down, Doombar was ok and they serve old skool Dry Blackthorn.
