The Old Arcade, Cardiff

Cleaner than before, with prompt service and beer which was tasty. SA Gold was excellent. Same old Brains pub grub which is just boring really.
Nice smoking area and I loved the outside TV screen.

The Goat Major, Cardiff

Clean, friendly pub with quality interior. Brains SA was excellent, didn't have time to try the food but it looked pretty boring. I'll be back.

Zerodegrees, Cardiff

Popped in out of curiosity, especially after hating the Bristol version. Sadly, Cardiff hasnt got it right either. Slow service sans smile and Pilsner which would shock the good people of Pilzn. No, no, no, this is not a good choice for quality, service nor price.

The Vulcan Hotel, Cardiff

Popped in recently for the first time ever just to give it some sort of support before it should close. Well, I really thought that it was quite average and this includes everything from ale, decor, service the lot....luckily the locals seem quite friendly.
It is a shame it is closing due to the entire modernisation these councils think we 'need', but after my experience I probably wouldn't have gone back anyway.

The Crystal Palace Tavern, Bath

Expensive and not particularly friendly pub. Of all the pubs I tried during my time in Bath this one comes last on all fronts.

The Coeur de Lion, Bath

Tiny and friendly pub. Decent pint and good banter, especially due to the 'tightness' of space. Well worth the visit.

The Alehouse, Bath

Small and cosy and amazingly not refashioned into some horrible trendy bar. Friendly staff and a nice, clean and fresh glass of Blackthorn.

The Horseshoe Inn, Downend

Cracking busy pub which made us feel very welcome. Steaks were a bargain. Beer was 'ok', nothing to write home about but just the good atmosphere makes it get a return visit. Well done!

Zero Degrees, Bristol

Horrific and pretencious bar/diner. Over-priced is an understatement. The food was good and more fairly priced. The sport being shown on the telly as you are having your dinner wasnt a great idea either. Bar staff too busy to serve you and a waiter who informs you that your starter might mean the rest of the table having to wait for their mains pissed me off.
Never again.

Start the Bus, Bristol

Friendly and busy bar, much better than its previouis incarnation. A bit dear for me and a bit too studenty but a good laugh all the same. Beer was good but the champers warm.

The Old Fish Market, Bristol

Quick service with a smile in this lovely old building. The bar was kept immaculate but the toilets weren't. Will make a repeat visit soon as I can.

The Long Bar, Bristol

Great selection of cider with a knowledgeable landlord. Probably too frightened to go there at night but would return for a mid afternoon jug.
Lots of memorabilia on the walls makes up for the lack of conversation.

The Boat Inn, Chepstow

After visiting this pub a couple of summers ago I thought how wasted it was. Now it is much improved. After a fortnight of touring around Gwent this is a good 'un. Friendly staff and a decent pint of Bass made for an enjoyable snow bound day.

Seamus O'Donnells, Bristol

Having been quite a few times now I really am impressed. In a neighbourhood full of style bars and in particular All Bar One this little pub stands out. Service is prompt and friendly and the beer is good and not a rip off. The toilets are a bit scruffy but the bar isnt.
A friendly little pub just to sit and drink and watch the regulars.

The Bell Hanger, Chepstow

We visited early evening on last Saturday and didnt feel particularly welcome. Groups of 'lads' all over the shop. It's a large pub (typical JDW), split on two levels which looks quite good. Service was very, very slow but when the beer arrived it was well-kept. We left soon after.
Popped in again yesterday (Monday) to have another go, it was quieter but again the service was slow and most the staff huddled around the coffee machine.
If you are after a little local this wont be for you, but if you dont mind the wait or the crowds you might just enjoy it....even though I didnt.

The Coach and Horses Inn, Chepstow

On arrival at this pub (rec. by friends) I was pretty pleased to see a wide range of ales. The barmaid let us have a taster of each (5) before choosing which one to have and we ended up having all of them. We gave the scrumpy a miss. There was a decent enough bar menu, pies and sausages satisfied us. The pricing was pretty average (2-55 for beer, 6 ish for food) and the service was good. As we were leaving we noticed a small beer garden at the back which seemed quite lively. We'd certainly return next time we are in this neck of the woods.
