Marquis of Lorne, Gillingham

Good old pub with a good character. Great real ales. no chavs. and very welcome. cant make it often but when I do I really enjoy the place.

I live quite far out of town so go to lots of pubs in this area. There some good ones and this is one of them.

Not far from train station opposite Black lion sports center.

I like drinking here alot some places can be a bit clicky and unwelcoming nowdays but not the Marquis of lorne. I always get a friendly welcome from the land lord and find it very easy going.

The beer is amoungst the best iv had round Medway. there is also a large range of local ciders served strait from the barrel. good schnapps collection too. There is usually some kind of chilli product on offer.

Pool table is now gone so there is more seats. There is a dart board now though.

Golden Lion, Rochester

went there friday (not my idea). bought a drink...poped out side for all of two minuits and when i turned round to go back in the bouncer on the door said they were closed. i told him i had a drink inside, it was my friends birthday and my girlfriend were still in there (my girlfriend needed to come home with me in a taxi and had no money). the idiot still wouldnt let me in and another bouncer come over as well. had to wait on the pavment and wasnt allowed to finish the drink i just payed payed for. wouldnt even fetch the manager. should be sacked

Dont go there its crap there are loads of good pubs about and other places open late. poco locos is only 10 min walk and they have live music.

Dont think because its cheap its good. the beer is badly kept and end of the line and the food is mediocre. Northforland, two brewers, Men of kent, coopers arms take your pick they dont have nuckle dragging idiots on the door, and steal your money.

loverly pub, beer was ok. it had lots of character. wanted to go here for years. glad i did but land lord was an extremely odd man, though it was late when we got there 11 o clock. He was absolutely wasted, we politely asked if we could have a drink and said we wanted a taxi, we got told he was open till 12 and we got given a taxi card but were only staying 2 miles away so could walk if we needed to. Land lord was nice one minuite and seemed quite helpful then was shouting at me the next being really nasty. saying you " you should have planned ahead" and "Iv been here working all day you dont think of other people who just want to go to bed" amoungst other things he then called me stupid and asked if i was a Fu***ing air head. I was nothing but nice to the man complimented him on his pub asked if it was ok to have a drink and didnt ask him to ring round taxi firms, then have a go at me for having to do it.
Sadly because of this I WONT GO THERE EVER AGAIN. top marks for outstanding buitiful pub, good marks for beer, no marks extremely rude land lord ( though I couldnt work out as he was friendly one minuite then not) wether he was just drunk. either way I dont like being called an effing air head or shouted at and not feel welcome. we only stopped at that stop to go there in stead of bradford on avon.

one stop down is limply stoke the pub there is ace. same setting, good beer, Fantastic food ( taken my parents there before), freindly helpfull bar staff. I have been there many times whenever in the area. I recomend it as a better choice its just down the canal. Aslo the Barge in bradford on avon comes highly recomended though I havnt visited myself. to be honest there is a pub in edinbough that is fantastic as an option not to be shouted at and called things.

The Nags Head, Rochester

Not as good as it used to be but good pub. beer resonably good, good juke box, good crowd, and a pool table that has a dodgy cusion and the balls curve.

I have to say though that last time that i was there. there was a couple at the bar with a what looked like an 18 month old child, and they were giving the child lager to drink strait out of their pint glass. They did this repeatedly. bar maid looked disturbed but think she was new and quiet so tried to pretend she didnt see them doing it. They also seemed to be good friends with the landlady. I used to work in pubs for years, they should have been kicked out no matter who they were, apart from being HIGHLY ILLEGLE its dam stupid.

They could have lost there licence. and what kind of impression does it give out.

apart from that its a good place for a pint on a friday night.

because of what I saw that day I give them a 0.

The Man of Kent Ale House, Rochester

Fantastic pub been going in here for years, best selection of ale in medway, great music, good atmoshphere. gets rather busy, people seem to be stopped from entering because it is too full nowdays, (just have to wait for someone to leave thats all). they have a large and rare selection of drinks, the missus likes fruli a strwberry beer which is really popular ther. def worth a pint here

The North Foreland, Rochester

Havnt been in this pub for years, its had a rough reputation and nothing of interest there. However it seems to have changed hands and is now much better. Its in its beginings but is well worth a pint there. Two real ales on, well Kept 2.50 pint, re-enactment memrobelia on the walls ( photos, uniforms ext) seems its one of the landlords hobbies and many re-enactment groups pop in for a pint. Its being advertised that re-enacters can have their pic on the wall (adds character, great). They do food though limetd, well priced (baked potato bout 3 quid i think). still get a few chaveys in there, and there was a loud mouth guy at the end of the bar one day who wouldnt shut up and leave anyone alone, but its big enough to sit somewhere els.
It takes time for a pub thats been crap for years to be turned round. This one certainly has good begininings and seems to have plans to do lots more.
With all the pubs that are closing now days we need to support the good ones. I drink in a few pubs round rochester when im in town and now this is one of them.
