Golden Lion, Rochester

Best thing about this pub is its' open an extra hour to midnight after the decent pubs close. Watch out though, they ring the bell for last orders so quietly you could find yourself with a depressingly empty glass before your journey to the kebab shop!

The Granville Arms, Rochester

Have had consistently good Abbott Ale in here and enjoy a pub that is just an honest pub. No airs or graces or yobs on Stella.
Gods Waiting Room? Little bit harsh but rather that than a kindergarten.
It is what it is - a decent pub serving decent beer.
You wouldn't think nick the landlord is into drag - that's drag racing not dressing up! ask him about it.

The Two Brewers, Rochester

Went in here on Christmas Eve as it was the only pub in the High Street without a disco or doormen. Had a lovely few pints of Spitfire and toddled off home a happy chap. Beer well kept but slightly more expensive than others.
A real traditional pub and a great place to watch the Six Nations but only has terrestrial TV.
Good for music 4pm -6pm on sunday afternoon following on from Jazz at the Eagle opposite.

Ye Arrow, Rochester

Have lived in Rochester for 6 years now and am happy to let you know that the miserable former landlord has departed and is now ruining another pub in Kent and annoying the locals.He used to sit at the end of the bar like 'Jabba the Hutt' from Star Wars and grunt at staff and customers alike. Hideous bloke. New management seem a lot better.
They quite often have a duo playing at weekends and I believe they have started a jam night.
A previous comment alludes to it being a bit of a 'grab a granny' venue at the weekend. I'd agree but would add if that's your thing then why not? takes two to tango (which is possibly the most recent dance a lot of these ladies have been up to!)
Worth a visit to see a fine selection of' oldest swingers in town with medalions featuring quite heavily.
To sum up, a decent pub for the over 40's to party on at the weekend!
Beer reasonable but not cheep.

Eagle Tavern, Rochester

I have been using this pub for the last year and would say it has come on leaps and bounds since previous reviews. The hosts, Nigel and Sandra have developed the place into the top music venue on the High Street with Jazz as mentioned on sunday afternoon and an acoustic theme on some sunday evenings including jam sessions and acoustic bands.
Wednesday night features another jam session with a great variety of good and not so good (me!) musicians taking to the stage.
Thursday is band night and features top local bands including The Soundcasters, Alibi and Chix with Pix. A top night out and free!
The real ale is second to none on the High Street and well priced considering the entertainment provided.
The staff are friendly and efficient and the breakfast is a welcome solution on hangover mornings. The rest of the grub looked good too!
The pub was recently refurbished and is far from drab.
the beer garden is good and comes a close second to the one at the rear of Ye Arrow but that's only because its' got views of the castle and cathedral (although the beer isn't as good).
The only negative I would say is the trek downstairs to the toilet but that's a bit irrelevant now I have discovered there are Tena for Men to cover that situation!!!!!
If you are anything over 35 yrs old then I'd avoid it on a Friday and Saturday night as these are disco nights and not suitable for white suited swingers.
So, in summary, probably the best pub in rochester for entertainment, beer and pub grub with a good atmosphere.

The Old Neptune, Whitstable

love going to this pub after some shellfish down the harbour.atmospheric pub although can be a bit smoky and the barmaids wear some wacky clthes. well kept bitter and fine guiness extra cold on a hot summers day. great place to watch the sun set.

The Blue Peter, Polperro

this is quite simply my very favourite pub in the world. kate the barmaid and richard the proprietor are extremely and welcoming. they even remember you if you ahven't visited for months on end. the luchtime grub is excellent but make sure you go in with a healthy appetite as the portions are generous.
unlike a previous post i love Sharps Doom Bar and have been "doomed" on many visits. even hired a cottage for a week opposite side of the harbour so i could see the pub when i woke up! (compass cottage if you want to give it a try - very romantic and only sleeps two - no good for bigamists!).
the pub itself is what you would expect a smugglers haunt to be and"tall paul" the barman's photos exhibited on the wall are excellent (got two hanging in my lounge)
so if you visit cornwall and don't seek out the blue peter(and compass cottage) you will not have a totally fulfilled existence. Mine's a pint of Doom !
