Looks okay for a pint every now and then, but we were disappointed with the food and service. The food is very pricey for what it is. My dish comprised one small grilled chicken breast, some potato wedges and a bit of broccoli. This cost 13.50! The fondant with ice cream arrived without ice cream. When we pointed this out, the waitress was polite but unhelpful. The ice cream unexpectedly arrived 15 minutes later. No problem if the food was half the price, but you should expect better given what they charge.

Staff have always been cheerful and friendly when I have visited. Despite it's modern refurbishment it's still an inviting place in a nice quiet residential street in Stoke Newington.

Very disappointing, especially given an enjoyable visit a year or so ago. First problem was the lack of staff - a large recently-vacated adjacent table remained uncleared for a large part of our time there, for instance. Food was ambitiously priced and failed to deliver. The Sunday roast consisted of grey lamb, powdered gravy, soggy yorkshire puddings and, worst of all, potatos and parsnips that appeared to have been cooked in a deep fat frier. The starter wasn't much better. The prawns in the prawn, potato and chorizo salad were tiny and tasteless to the extent of being pointless. The greenery of the salad was a tuft of undressed rocket placed on top.
I know this is a pub, and I would have no complaint if the food was, say, half its current price. But when a pub has the guts to charge 5+ for a starter and 10-15 for a main course it really needs to provide restaurant quality food. Because that's what you're paying for. As it is, it just smacks of yet another place trying it's luck by masquerading as a gastropub.

The Golden Heart, Shoreditch
Seemed okay from the outside, but got shafted twice by the bar staff. Whilst there I went to the bar three times to get the same round of two drinks. The first time I was charged 8. Second time it was 8.70 for some reason, and then the girl said she could only give me 1 change from a tenner because the till had run low on coins! Third time it was 8-something, I couldn't quite hear the last bit, but she (a different girl this time) didn't give me any change back from the 9 I handed over. Just started serving the next customer. The place was packed so I didn't have the energy to argue over a few pence (although I now wish I had). Perhaps they are just clueless, but it seems odd to be fleeced twice in a row like that by different bar staff.
