Been once only but thought it was a great place. Historical and homely, decent crack......

Is this place not called the Galley of Lorne?
Was OK when I stayed there.

Brilliant rooms here too. Only down point is that the drink is a bit pricey.
But a great place when it's not too busy.

No windows. Dark and dingey - young crowd on weekends. Bit rough and ready but nothing to be too scared of. Not somewhere you'd take the mrs or g/f on a nice evening out.
Masonic Arms, Commercial Inn, Gordon House and Selkirk Arms are all preferable IMHO.

Wee bit down at heel. Used to be the place to be in the 60's. Now a bit unloved.
Best location in town for tourist trade but one of the few pubs in town I very rarely use.

Friendly and my fave pub in town.
Loads of beers on draft plus 2 guest ales, and many bottled beers from round the world (dozens).
35ml shorts. No food or kids. No jukebox, but does have pool (50p) and a fruitie.
Friendly but some say it can be a bit clique-y (can't they all?).

My review above was actually for the Steam Packet, not the Gordon House. Seems the Steam Packet entry no longer exists and my review's been switched to the GH.
GH has good front bar with food. Back bar has big tellies and younger atmos (loud music etc.).
