I have eaten in this pub several times, the food is well above average, served hot and within reason, bearing in mind cooked to order, delivered to your table promptly. The atmosphere is pleasant and the open fire is a bonus, if a little smokey at times, as it tends to blow back into the pub. The people I have been with when we have visited this pub and we all agree this is the only real critisism we have, some of the ales are stunningly overpriced, some by 35p a pint, which is a lot of money compared to the price we pay in other surrounding pubs. We can understand some of the wines being on the pricey side, as they are more upmarket quality wines than your usual run of the mill pub wines, if the ales were more realisticaly priced this indeed would be one to be reccomended.

I had the unfortunate experience of calling to this establishment with some friends the other evening, I shall refrain from calling it a pub, as I'm sure I could be prosecuted under the trades description act. The ale served had a choice of ONE and that was flat, if you ordered a gin and tonic you had to have it without ice, as apparently the ice making machine was broken some time ago by the previous landlord. Too much trouble to get any from a super market and no danger of the current manager doing anything about getting it fixed, something to do with the brewery not giving him a budget!!!!!!!!!!! There's customer service for you. Despite food being advertised on a chalk board inside, this establishment actually does not have a chef or serve any food, something else left over from the previous landlord and hadn'y even cleaned the chalk boards off.
The best advice I can offer on this dump, is go somewhere else for a drink.

Went for a meal with some friends during the week (Mon-Thur) only to find this establishment doesn't do food during the weekday evenings, only lunch times??? After this initial dissapointment tried to order a round of drinks only to find two of the three ales were off, compounded with there was a problem with the gas on the Stella larger, gave up and went to a delightful pub just down the road, should have realised there was something wrong with this place as there were only 3 other people in the whole pub who in fairness to them appeared to be locals.

If you enjoy waiting a long time to be served this is the pub for you!!!!!
Not only can you wait a long time but when you do get some one to serve you
there is a distinct lack of choice. When I tried to get a round in for some friends
there was only one ale on, funnily enough called exchequer, nothing else despite assurances a delivery was coming tomorrow. Not to be put off we ploughed on attempting to purchase some wine that was marked up on a board
over the bar,no such luck this hadn't been ordered yet as it was a bin end and
the wine hadn't been ordered on the day it should have been and wouldn't be delivered until later in the week, silly us thinking that as it was advertised it would be available. The problems don't stop there, 3 women were working behind the bar, mostly serving tables and taking drinks orders for the diners tables, in fairness they did look to be constantly on the go. The male person who we assume is part of the team, spent most of his time avoiding work, there is nothing more infurriating than trying to get a drink from overworked bar staff when one of them decides to stand out the front and have a cigarette, when he came back from this cigarette break, you guessed it I was still waiting to be served, he acknowledged me, told me he would be straight back having to get something from upstairs???? When he did return he went straight back out the front.
I'm sorry but even in the depths of a depression service like this takes some believing, I shall actively tell everyone of my social circle about this pub, it's advertising but not of the sort you would choose, it's akin to a latter day Fawlty Towers, just without the fun.
