The Brocket Arms, Ayot St. Lawrence
One of the best pubs in Hertfordshire. Set in the middle of the Ayots, between Welwyn, St Albans and Codicote. Beautiful walking country and a beautiful, very old pub with a huge inglenook fireplace. Tobius, the landlord, is some kind of aristocrat - eccentric though very refined and gentlemanly. Dogs are welcome as are gentlemen with large cigars, plumbers, builders and people from all walks of life. The service is extremely variable, depending upon the presence and inebriation of the landlord. A gem, and my favourite pub.

Excellent selection of real ales. Good service. Non-smoking section upstairs. Best pub in Hertford.

The pub is not smokey and there are no yobs. The service is as expected for a 'managed' pub - listless and inattentive. The food is corporate, edible and not expensive. Bloody cold because one of the staff had to keep nipping out for a fag and leaving the door open. The waitresses were young and very attractive but ill-mannered. You do get served eventually, and the real ale is actually excellent. I give it 6 out of 10.

Ha ha! I came here to post a review of this place and seeing the comments, there's not much I can add. The place has been taken over by zombies! The pub down the road (Rose & Crown I think) is just weird. Stay in Hertford to drink - Tewin is zombie country.

Rose and Crown, Tewin
Bravely called in after Christmas. Polite staff, good service. Beer not too bad. Have to see what the food is like.
