The Central, Upton Park

Havent drunk in there for a while. Decent enough on match days but a complete khazi thereafter....

Vera Lynn started her carreer there back in the 30's as she was originally an east ham girl (not that she would admit now the inverted snob) bless her.

The Blue Anchor, Helston

Jonnysaint. I loved your comments an ale pilgrimage of the highest order Never really thought of it as a pilgrimage but yes I suppose it is.
Its a pilgrimage to the Blue Anchor that I hope to make again sometime soon.

Not sure if the guy who served me was the guvnor or the barman but he was a right old character & pissed as a fart even at that time.

The blue anchor puts most pubs that I am forced to use into absolute shade.

The great thing I loved about this pub is that my missus dident like it superb.!!!

Its a shame that pubs like this are a dieing breed. Even some of the pubs in the City (of London) these days are nothing more than a home for chavs in suits.

The Blue Anchor, Helston

Found this place by chance whilst visiting Cornwall this summer -, what an amazing pub.

Walked in about midday on a monday looking for a spot of lunch before hitting the beach a few miles away. Couldent beleive what isaw in the main bar. Most of the locals happilly singing away in a state of drunkedness that you wouldent expect for a Monday lunchtime. After a few of those Spingo ale's i found myself joining in.

The misses & kids though were not impressed. I did beg & pleed for her to take the kids to the beach & pick me up in a few hour's time...alas she was having none of it.
I would rate this pub a 10 for the beer & general charactor. Shame i live 000's of miles away in some horrible essex town where the pubs are full of chavs.

Beer outstanding, locals weird, wonderful & in a constant state of drukeness (in a freindly way)

Without doubt, Britains best pub. Long may it continue

The best to you also fancyalight ale. Do you know the horrible fat geezer I mean? Think his name may be Clyde of something - drinks with a thinnish sort of fellah with glasses & another fat guy who wears those stupid colourful braces.

Theres been some decent barmaids in there over the years, there was one a few years back. Helen her name was, great baps if I remember correctly

BTW -what other pubs do you drink in nearby?

The Lamb, Bloomsbury

It dont get better than this. This is what a proper pub is & what the other London pubs should aspire to.

Love the snobbery boards & the black and white pictures of the Victorian prostitutes (according to the guvnor) around the walls.

Nice to know that my old grandfather drank here in the mid 30s but dont know if it was a youngs house back then.

Well done to Youngs - keep this pub how it is.

Whats facnyapint on about, this is a great little boozer. I have been coming in here years & have never had a problam with the so called " Alcoholics who work in the Insurance Industry all moaning about where it all went wrong"

Fancy a pint is probaly one of these types & is currently working for direct line in a call centre.!!!!

The Fowlers Farm, Braintree

More of a restaurant than a pub strictly speaking but a very pleasant place to stop for a pint or two. Couple of ales on including the local IPA & good selection of cheap(ish) lagers.

Set in quite large grounds with plenty of space for the kids to run around in & nice to have a spot of lunch when the Suns shining.

However a warning for the ladies dont go if you hubbie or boyfriend has a roving eye as the barmaids / waitresses are all dolly birds, every time I go in there they dont fail to impress, the manager obviously has his priorities right keep up the good work.
