The Glasshouse Stores, Piccadilly Circus

Not bad at all. Very reasonably priced for the location, you can generally get a table, bar billiards and generally good atmosphere. It's a Sam Smiths which limits the beverage choices.

The King's Arms, Bristol

Has changed its name AGAIN!!! It is the Black Bear now. Quite an interesting building and a decent enough bar.

The Cock O' The North, Henleaze

Random trivia is that this pub featured under the name The Kebab and Calculator in a couple of Young Ones episodes.

No other major reason to go there although it's less shabby since refit.

The Post Office Tavern, Bristol

Good range of beers (Otter, several Bath Ales and guests). Rather staid but decent atmosphere. Interior could just do with some freshening up.

Strange how things change. I came across a local pub guide from (I am guessing) 1970s which said the POT was a rather raucous pub for the youngsters, while the parents were more likely to head down to the Foresters at the bottom of the road. Roles have been more or less reversed (and the Foresters is rather unpleasant as well as having a young demographic).

The Foresters, Bristol

Avoid. Bit of a reputation for minor spilling onto the street and for the more, ahem, fresh faced drinker. There are several better pubs close by.

The Isambard, Paddington

Surprisingly quiet whenever I have been there. Presumably more people go to the Mad Bishop up the escalators but this is a decent enough meeting point with a reasonable selection of beers.

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

Actually not bad. You would not make a trip just to go there but for a quick pint with somebody before they get the train or meeting somebody off the train, it is quite good. Much better than most station bars.

The City Barge, Chiswick

Decent enough pub in a good location but looking a bit tired and, as the previous poster said, it could do with a sensitive overhaul (emphasis on sensitive - doesn't need tearing apart and turning into something it isn't).

The Bulls Head, Chiswick

Very old pub, great building, wonderfully located on the river. It is a Chef & Brewer so the food is of a reasonable standard and they tend to look after the place quite well.

For the romantic, you would in many ways rather this was more of an old fashioned pub and less of a semi-restaurant. But the economics of it dictate that a valuable site like this needs to rake in food sales so there it is.

Grove Park, Chiswick

Ignore the pre-2008 comments on this pub as it has had a total refurb. Looks good, solid wood floor, large and smart bar with fireplace and plenty of leather sofas. Nice atmosphere - good mix of people and lively without being crowded. One downside is it is not good on real ale although it does have London Pride available.

Right next to the station so a good place to start/end a pub crawl taking in pubs on the Chiswick to Kew stroll.
