I visited here recently and stayed at the campsite for a couple of nights. The Merry Harriers is a first rate pub that deserves it's entry in the Good Beer Guide. All the beers I tried were on form. It also succeeds in carrying off being a 'traditional pub' on the one hand, with being 'up to date' on the other which is something of a rarity these days. Whilst being a 'new face' amoung who I assumed were locals/regulars, I was always made to feel very welcome and at no point felt uncomfortable - always an encouraging sign. If ever back in the area, I'll definitley be popping back in.

Prince of Wales Ham Hill Country Park, Stoke-Sub-Hamdon
It does get busy when (if?) the weather is good. Whilst I appreciate that that may not be to everyone's taste, it can definitely add up to a good atmosphere. (Whilst yet to experience it, I can imagine it probably gets a 'bit quiet'/bleak during the winter although I am more than happy to be proved wrong on that point though.) When I have eaten here, the food has been dependable without being spectacular. What really makes this pub for me ,though, is the policy of there always being three changing quests on predominately from local/West country breweries (as opposed to having any beers permenantly on). I have been going here reasonably regularly for the last year and haven't had a duff pint yet plus they are always served at full measure(something that does seem to happen a little too often elsewhere in general). I do hope they stick to that arrangement, or at least something very similar. Defintely a reliable and dependable real ale haven.

The Crown and Victoria Inn, Tintinhull
I was here recently for lunch with my parents. The pub is certainly in a good location/pretty village and is pleasant enough itself although the actual bar itself does seem a liitle plastic though. In general, it does seem very much geared up to food (and the food we had was perfectly reasonable) but was perhaps at the expense of those wanting to go just for a drink although there were several ales on at the time - one/two from Cheddar, a couple from Butcombe and a porter I didn't recognise. Whilst the Potholer (Cheddar) I had was reasonable enough, it wasn't brilliant. I just wonder if there is enough turn over to keep up the quality. That said, would be happy to go back to check. An all round 'solid enough effort' but just nothing to really mark it out as individual.

Have been a couple of times of late. It does come across as more restaurant than pub.(Haven't actually eaten here so no in a position to comment on the food/service.) On the occasions I was there, the ale on tap was somewhat pricey, even for Surrey standards, and was rather average. Whilst I'm sure the strong emphasis on the restaurant side may 'do it' for many - not really my cup of tea.

Hurrah for a proper pub sadly all too rare amidst the numerous circuit pubs/bars that are the Guildford drinking scene. Although a tied pub (therefore few/no guest ales?), the Fullers ales on tap are always more than capably kept and served by the ever approachable staff. Additionally, you get a good mixture of varied regulars and passers by. Always worth a visit. Long may this continue.Shame the pool table went in the recent refurbishment though (:-)

The Star, Godalming
Recently spent a suitably pleasant, lazy afternoon here, catching up with an old friend. Whilst a perfectly decent pub, I could imagine it would probably appeal more to those in search of a decent pint somewhere down to earth and at ease with itself, like myself, rather than those looking for something particularly flash and swanky. The ale was certainly on form and the food I had was simple, well done and of a decent size.
