Good selection of ale. No gambling machines/music just beer and good conversation in nice surroundings. If you enjoy this pub the Old Bell in Harrogate and Blind Jacks in Knaresborough (both around 25miles away)are very similar and equally good.

Its a real shame that service lets this pub down. Unfortunately you always have to wait a long time to be served and there doesn't seem to be enough staff to keep the place clean and tidy. Though there are plenty of good points, the actual building is great(quite grand with large staircase) its part of the original Royal Baths building. Its very big, has a nice outside seating area and has the same value for money associated with the chain.

The Old Bell Tavern, Harrogate
Great pub, now completely no smoking, dozen or so ales to choose from. Never tried the bar food but looks good. Have eaten in the small restaurant upstairs and was very impressed. They have knocked through into the old Farrah's toffee shop next door and added an extra room, even so the place is always busy with a good atmosphere a testament to the pubs quality.

The Borough Bailiff, Knaresborough
Large pub very well presented throughout. Old Oak room non smoking. Traditional lounge and bar with darts and pool in the bar. Large backroom for dining with large sofas and chairs. One of the largest/best pubs in Knaresborough. Sam Smiths beer.

Very old and small pub. The bars only a few feet long. Three small rooms would be cramped with 40+ people. Coal fires in the rooms and a great beer garden backing onto the countryside and Nidd Gorge. Great for walkers and cyclists (is on a cycle route). Sam Smiths beer 1.28 a pint (Jan 07)

The One Eyed Rat, Ripon
Good real ale pub. Great selection of beers. A hidden gem of a beer garden round the back for those sunny days
