The Queen's Head, Pinner

The best pub in the London Borough of Harrow by a country mile.

A good range of beers, served well. A proper pub, with seemingly friendly regulars.

Why can't there be somewhere like this in South Harrow/Northolt?

(...don't answer this; I think I know why...)

The Highbury Barn, Islington

Ignore my previous post...this place has gone to the dogs.

Went yesterday to meet some mates before the game. Told all ales were off...then told there were no bottled ales. When I said, "So, no ales then" the charmless barman said, "Yeah - that's what I said." When I said I might as well go, he added, "Yeah, go on off you go!"

Add to this the two idiots on the doors who both questioned whether I was an Arsenal fan, despite me wearing a 1979 top WITH A F***ING CANNON ON IT!!!! One of them told me to cover it up!

So I took my money to the Bank of Friendsip instead.

Utter, utter s**t.

The Fox, Hanwell

Fab! Came back again today; good selection of ales, and a tasting offered. The barmaid remembered me, the missus and the little'un. Top food, lovely atmosphere.

Can't fault it...

The Bridge Hotel, Greenford

Sorry, but Mr. Smooth's comments are so wide of the mark, it's painful.

Firstly, "The Bridge" IS a hotel; it is the fact that many conferences and receptions are held here that keeps it going as a profitable concern. My daughter's naming ceremony was held hear and the staff did an excellent job.

I know the member of staff that Mr. Smooth refers to, and in the four years I have been coming to this place, she has always been polite and friendly.

The food is good. Yes, it isn't cheap, but I've only ever had one questionable meal, and that was replaced very quickly.

The beer is well kept, the Special, as fat beer badger says, is of the highest quality. I don't drink lager, but I know that they have Staropramen, Leffe and at least two others on tap.

Sorry Mr.Smooth, but your review smacks of one bad experience. I would suggest that you turn up more than 5 minutes before last orders and give "The Bridge" a proper visit before casting your judgement...

The Fox, Hanwell

Visited today with my partner and 6 month old daughter after going to the 'Bunny Park' at Brent Lodge...no bunnies, mind!

So much to say about 'The Fox':

Excellent ale - 7 to choose from. Enjoyed a 'Doom Bar' and 'One for the Road'.

Excellent food at reasonable prices.

No objection whatsoever to our daughter or her mashed carrot! In fact, the barmaid was quite taken with her...

Great service from the barmaid, who was polite, helpful and friendly, to the extent of bringing over a hot container to warm the mashed carrot.

Baby changing facilities! Don't get that very often...

Radio playing an enjoyable station, "Q", but not obtrusively.

...And the downside? Erm...errr...it's 20 minutes on the bus!

Ace. Will be back very soon.

The Castle, Harrow On The Hill

Came here last weekend with partner and baby; good pint of Gale's, nice sarnie.

Very sadly, this is the only decent pub in Harrow/South Harrow nowadays...

The Stinging Nettle, Shepherds Bush

A new Young's pub; I looked forward to visiting it last Sunday.

Full range of Young's Ales?

No...

No Special at all, not a single Young's bottled ale.

Ordinary, Bombadier and Waggledance on tap. I tried the ordinary; so bad I had to take it back.

The food was okay, but I don't understand how Young's can promote this as a Young's pub when it is so sorely lacking in what makes their pubs so good.

The Crown, Northolt

I have just visited this pub with my partner and five month old daughter for lunch, and have been very pleasantly surprised.

The Young's Ordinary was good, the service polite and friendly, and the food, whilst unexciting, was absolutely fine.

There would seem to have been a refit and the pub is now CASQUE MARQUE. The toilets are clean and obviously well maintained. The customers were all fine and dandy.

I'd go again.

Incidentally, Northolt Village isn't a "rough" area...

The Lamb, Bloomsbury

Lovely place, great beer. I hope they don't tamper with this pub, as it's a little beauty!

It would be full of "suits" on a Friday, it's in the City! And since many of them are working class lads made good, your not really a poshpeoplehater are you mate?

The Marquess Tavern, Canonbury

The beer is very good, the food is very good, but boy is it pricey!

The Highbury Barn, Islington

The best pre-match pub, though it would benefit from a wider range of beers. Food isn't bad.

The Bridge Hotel, Greenford

Find me another Young's pub in Harrow, Ealing or Hillingdon; there isn't one.

The Special served here is of the highest quality. So, using this as a yardstick, since I consider Young's Special to be the epitome of good quality ale, you can undertand my point.

Additionally, the Ordinary is good, they have bottles of Well's Banana, the food is good and the staff are very friendly and efficient.

So, I stand by my comment.

Doctor Duncans, Liverpool

Visited Liverpool from London a fortnight back. Discovered this place - a well cared for pub, with an array of Cain's brews. Very impressive. Enjoyed the FA.

The Bridge Hotel, Greenford

To reiterate, a great pub, especially if you like a well-served pint of Young's Special. Also serves Ordinary, Wells' Banana and some very good food, albeit not the cheapest.

The Bridge Hotel, Greenford

Best pub in the whole of outer West London by far. Good food and well cared for Beer. Quiet and pleasant.

The White Horse, Welwyn

Visited this place at Christmas. They had Young's Special, which was lovely, very good food and friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. I promised I'd submit a review... and here it is! Thoroughly recommended.
