The Great Western Hotel, Exeter
As others have said the decor is dated. So what!f you want a great pint from local breweries then it has to be the Great Western. Always 7 or more on the handpumps and always in tip top condition.I have never had a bad pint here. Also the food is very good.Very good portions and very tasty. This is traditional pub grub and doesn't pretend to be anything else.
If you're looking for a proper"boozer" in Exeter look no further.

This pub is now Skinners and the beer comes directly from the brewery in Truro. It is always excellent quality and there are usually different beers which you don't see elsewhere as well as the full normal skiners range.Well worth a look if in Truro.

The City Inn (Tavern An Dre), Truro
The City has always been Truro'sbest real ale pub.It has certainly improved recently after going through a difficult time.Alway Betty Stog,Courage and Doom bar usually plus a guest. The beer is always top quality. There is now good pub grub and a Sunday carvery and occasional music sessions.
Well worth a visit if you want a decent pint in a traditional pub.

I have visted this pub a few times. It is obviously going through a testing time because of various planning applications and threats of closure.Ever time I have been there there has been a fantastic range of beers many from micros from the local region. The quality was first class.Yes it could have been cleaner and the decor has seen better days. But everyone is friendly and the staff helpful. There are very few real community pubs nowadays and I will take the Wenlock "warts and all" above the bland theme and gastro pubs which seem to be taking over the rest of the universe.

A Truro stalwart.Always good real ale and food on offer.May take a little finding from city centre. An outside area to the rear.
Worth seeking out

Nice pub.Great views from the front over the creek.Usually at least a couple of real ales.Ate here recently and food excellent.Puds outstanding.Exceptional wine list and all bottles on display.Rear beer garden in terraces.Spend a happy summer hour in the garden.
Has changed hands a few times recently and service not always as good as the fare on offer.Hopefully will revert back to the village local it always was soon?

The City Inn (Tavern An Dre), Truro
A longstanding favourite for real ale drinkers in Truro.A regular in the good beer guide for ever.A bit up and down in recent years but you are always certain to get a good pint of local skinners if all else fails.

Now closed.Pretty dire prior to closure.Hopefully someone will come in to reopen soon?

The pub has been completely revamped. There is live music at the weekends and a really good food menu including some intersting veggie options.Nice views of the Cathedral and river from the sun lounge and outdoor area.Regulary stock Courage best and directors as well as Sharps Doombar.Nice relaxing atmosphere.Great new addition to Truro.

The Double Locks, Exeter
This used to be a great pub with tip top beer and good food.Unfortunatly it has gone down hill or "up the river" over recent years. Ate there recently and food only average at best.My first pint and had to be taken back as it was the end of the barell. The replacement was OK but nothing special.Someone needs to really get hold of this and pull it around.Still great potential in brilliant setting.
