Good question. This and The Castle in Old Isleworth. This site ain't what it used to be

Utterly soulless. I used to enjoy drinking here in the pub's previous incarnation, in that back room, past the restaurant Auberge, I think. They had comfy red sofas and lots of pot plants. If you swathe your ever-expanding beer gut in a pastel shirt and wear loafers in an unironic way, you'll fit right in these days.

Despite the riverside location, this place comes into its own during winter. It's less busy and feels more intimate, particularly with the fires. But whatever the season, you can often evesdrop on the coked-up K-list sherlebriddies from the studio next door.

Pulled in here one cold night during a cycling and camping holiday in late October, after trawling round some spectacularly awful pubs in Settle. Wonderful landlady, open fire and several Guiness and whiskies sent me back to my tent fortified against the sub-zero temperatures.

Has to be smelled to be believed. Pool table, though, innit?

A most excellent hostelry, with a most excellent quiz on a Wednesday eve.

Never had a bad pint in here. Welcoming staff, perfect ambience (no music) and comes into its own around Christmas.

The crisp R&B blats at your eardrums through the icy wastes of this barn. What's not to like?

Always enjoy a drink here relaxed crowd, decent music, pleasant staff.
But can anyone tell me what the hell that smell is? Is it a consequence of the fine selection of real ales? It seems worse near the bar.
