I love this pub and it's excellent Hophead Ale........a blast from the past with it's old school standards and offering, long may it continue !

Visited this pub 08/01/2010 which was a Saturday night and left feeling let down......this used to be a great place in the early 90's but despite Young's efforts and great expense remains a shadow of it's former glory......!
Service was slow and indifferent......bar prices are high and atmosphere was distinctly edgy with a complete drunk talking S*** at the bar and two utterly laughable meatheads parading around supposedly offering security....it somehow displays a arrogance about itself, no welcome or friendliness @ all.......this is not a one off as a lunchtime visit before Christmas evidenced.....shame really as the pub should be something special.

As a real Ale buff I went to this pub with high expectatations.....10 real ales wow!
(Vale Brewery)tried their best bitter , Vale Pale ale which was more than acceptable.......however I felt the pub was a bit flat.......OK it was 7.30 on a Monday nie in October but what the hell it seemed tired with TV's showing the news(why oh why does that happen!!!), one member of staff who seemed in a trance, no eaters!.............OK but given it's accolades all I can say is what the hell are Aylesbury's other pubs like?

Visited here for a Sunday Roast 11/10/2009 and was pleasantly surprised.......lovley old pub that was packed @ 4 O'clock and although it is a Chef & Brewer managed house (Punch?) it did nothing brilliantly, but nothing badly either!......service was efficient, even though my roast was thrown onto the table rather comically! Timothy Taylor's Landlord on hand pull was well kept although far to cold!......bill was very reasonable for two pints a glass of wine and Ice cream...it all came to less than 20.00.....not bad I thought!

Well I have to admit seeking out this pub due to it's illustrious owner etc.not that it should make any difference either way I suppose...however I must say my experience was mediocre. Firstly the Beer Deuchars IPA was fresh tasting but soured by the price i.e. 3.90 a pint and served in a slim contemporary Pint Class rather than the traditional Nonic that I prefer! Greeting from the staff was virtually non existent and perfunctory service the order of the day....in fact there were off duty staff milling around all over the place....making for a rather exclusive as opposed to inclusive atmosphere. Talking of atmosphere it was bloody freezing no heating whatsoever and a empty and inactive fireplace....absolutely unforgivable give the exorbitant prices being charged....the manager(???) seemed to spend best part of an hour fannying around the barren fireplace rearranging the grate and log basket and was then overheard on the phone negotiating a delivery of "Logs!" (Send one of the poncy bar staff on a mission for some methinks!!!!....I mean it was 1.30pm lunchtime on January 2nd!).
No sorry, it all had the vibe of a celebrity owned place, with the staff coming across as aloof, tired and disinterested in customers,in fact they seemed like an inconvenience...living in a bubble, not of this world, when 40 pubs a week are having to close down this is taking the piss!
Decor was authentic and understated and felt good.
Although there were 5 members of staff on and off duty in the front part of the pub when I left, not one said thank you or goodbye when I returned my glass to the bar.
Not good enough Mr Ritchie your gonna have to try a lot harder!

The Junction Tavern, Kentish Town
I checked this place out en route to The Forum & a Calexico Gig and was very impressed, especially lucking in with The Beer Festival in full swing. Lovely decor and great outdoor facility.
My only criticism was that the staff were a bit dour and lo-fi for my tastes especially the guy serving the guest ales who looked @ me as if I'd been beemed down from yonder when I asked for his advice about the beers in an attempt to choose one to my liking!
Menu looked good with prices about par for the course when you consider the overheads of running a pub these days!

It is hard sometimes to read comments such as the one below and not react.....especially when they are incorrect and plainly racist!
The only Polish lady working @ The Red Lion has done so for twelve months now and is certainly au fait with the prices of beer, maybe she made a mistake "***t happens!"!!!!!
However the comments about the history of the Red Lion re. the nationality of the barstaff are frankly laughable and ill informed as Ealing, other than Chicago has the largest Polish enclave outside Poland itself, so one out 1 out 10 batstaff is clearly unrepresentative of the community that The Red Lion serves. Many of the pubs regulars are and have been in some cases for longer than 50 years Polish and Polish is regularily heard in the pub as a spoken language.
If being "Traditional" means a reliance on cockney barmaids and Lads then I think it's time to move on and come to terms with the fact that the large majority of affluent Ealing young people do not apply for jobs in a Pub.Many of the East Europeans are adventurous and determined to succeed and can be and are a real asset in the Hospitality industry.

The Trinity Arms, Brixton
I visited on Tuesday night on route to the Academy and must say what a find, it had a great local feel and was quite buzzy with a few eccentric regulars and pre gig diners & drinkers, Meantime's Sundown was the guest & perfectly kept it was too! I must say how impressed I was by the two young ladies running the bar, they were great, friendly & attentive in a quiet and reassuring way.....they just got on with it, customer care was clearly top of their list and it should, we felt well looked after and will definitely return next time we're in Brixton, Well done The Trinity Arms a perfect 10
