Well, what can I say.
I used to go in this pub quite often and loved it. It was quirky with it's outside loos and had a fantastic array of high quality real ales.
I met up with a friend their today for a quick drink as we were looking for a decent pint of beer, we chose the wrong pub.
There was no good real ale, and what they did have was not in great condition, the place has been modernised and expanded but all the character and charm has been lost. The grass in the beer garden was nearly a foot high as well.
It was my last visit to the Hoop.

I used to go to this pub a lot when I lived in Theydon Bois, it was better than all the others, and following my most recent visit a couple of weeks back it appears to be just as good. The staff have changed but the atmosphere and friendliness, and the beer was all just as good. A nice pub in a nice area.

We arranged to meet here just at it was somewhere central to where we were all staying in town, I couldn't believe that the beer was served in plastic beakers. Not that they sell any nice beer, I had some ridiculously cold guinness, but I won't be going back there.

The food was nice, the service was good, the beer was in really good nick, although they did seem to have a lot of Christmas beers on in mid January. The place was almost empty and seriously lacked any atmosphere, the only entertainment being the drunk sitting at the bar. The coal fire was very nice though as it was perishingly cold outside -10C, yes -10C in Manchester centre.
It was a nice pub, has potential but hasn't found it yet, a good charismatic landlord behind the bar and a few punters and it'll be laughing.

The 25/40 a side cricket match still takes place, what a day, what a load of fun. I love this pub, friendly staff, friendly locals, and if you are there at the right time you can sit and enjoy a really nice pint and hear the church bells in the background, what could be better on a Sunday afternoon.

I popped in here tonight on my own, whilst working up here after reading reviews on this site and I was not disappointed. The bar staff were friendly and helpful in their recommendation for which of the 9 real ales I should try first, and it was a cracker, in very good condition. the Marble Arch 'PINT'. I had a taster of some others and had the Marble Arch 'BITTER' and a guest ale. All the beers I had were in great condition, and the pub was a place not to be missed. I shall be returning regularly. I did not try the food and did not see any as I was in there quite late. I was there purely for the beer and for that it gets 10 out of 10. I will make more time for this pub in future visits to Manchester

The Angel, Manchester
This pub has improved dramatically over the last 6 months, and I now frequent it more often than the pub just up the road.
