Dureing the week (certainly) it trades/relies on teh fact that it is the only pub in the village.
The food is average and expensive - but where else are you going to go? (If you work at Fidelity or L&G)
Its pricey becuase it has a captive market and its levels of cervice reflect the fact that its the only game in town
Garden is OK in the summer, in winter its dull and dreary place to spend a lunchtime or (got forbid) an everning. My tip, get on the first train home!

I agree with all the previous comments (Billy_and_me) and more.
MY girlfriend I are regulars for the Monday 2-4-1 meal offer - we've tried most of the menu and it ranges from good to excellent.
Its the same with the cocktails - they range from tasty to fan-bloody-tastic.
On the weekend, when they have a DJ, the place seem to attract a bustling varied crowd without becoming too crowded, too loud or too clubby (while still being a fun place pre-club or post movie drop in.
The staff are all great - very friendly, very helpful and FAST service (always a plus when ordering cocktails on a Saturday night)
Its a little gem!

The Horse and Groom, Streatham
not he greatest pub the world - bit tatty, bit grubby and smokey with that pervasive smell of stale beer and fags. The food is average (at best) . NOt bad for watching the football in but there are many better bars in the area

nice, friendly pub - good service and good food ...the menu could use some shaking up once in a while however

The Ramblers Rest, Chipstead
I have been there a few times to eat - and the food has always been very good. PLus, I think the menu is quite imagintive and innovative ...for its type (I don't think it has even the smack of "Berni Inn" about it - maybe that commenter should visit more berni's!?)
The decor is nice and the court-yard garden is lovely place to while away some ours on sunny summers evening
