The Black Heart, Camden

Has the look of a standard stripped pine chain pub. Very standard beer selection, pretty crap for real ale drinkers, but at least the Guinness is well kept and not served tastelessly chilled.

Nice chilled out upstairs room for watching the Rugby.

Surprisingly good food (the usual fare - microwave/frier, but a cut above any other bar in the neighbourhood). My kingdom for a crispy chip!

The Oxford Arms, Camden

The closest thing to a proper pub on the Camden High Street.

Not the best beer selection in the world, but well kept (ie: the London Pride here is pleasantly drinkable), and the landlord is a decent bloke.

Good for watching the football.

Nice garden (they actually bother to put out flowers), especially when it's winter and you're with your Geordie mates who don't care if it's a little cold out...

Quinn's, Camden

The best bar in the world. End of!

You won't find a selection of beer this good anywhere in Europe. More Belgian beer than any bar in Belgium, and more German beer than any bar in Germany. Say no more...

The Andechs Doppelbock may be finished (bummer), but the rest of the stock remains. And there's a particularly fine Herbst Bock in at the minute. Also a Schwartzbier (rare in these parts) that's well worth a sup.

Just please leave the Schlenkerla Rauchbier alone. You won't like it. Shit, I'm gonna have to go down there and have some now. It's just like a pint of bacon butty...

The Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill

Fantastic pub!

This is the only place in Primrose Hill to have the feel of a proper local. The local folk drinking here are not the assholes you find everywhere else in this area; They're real people. The only barstaff in the area to not take the "o" out of "country"...

Reasonably well kept beer, always with a guest ale. Not always the standard stuff either; They've surprised me a few times with crazy brews from Devon, Cornwall, etc that I've never seen anywhere else in London (not even the Wenlock!)

No obnoxious music, no constant football. There's a couple of nasty fruit machines, but nobody's perfect.

Proper food as well. Good home cooking style at decent prices (egg and chips, sausage and egg etc), which is a combination sadly lacking in this part of town.

I've been drinking here for about six or seven years now, on and off, and it's the only place in the area where the staff a)stick around for more than a month and b)give a shit. The landlady, Jane, is a legend. She truly cares about the place of the local pub in the community, which is worth a fair bit in my book.

Truly a five star pub. Go there, but please, for Christ's sake, don't let your lager-lout mates know how good it is.
