The Royal Oak, Vauxhall

Still a good real pub. God I miss the smoking though. I don't smoke myself but this place was built for smoke: dark wood, light shining through the beautiful windows catching the pall of smoke and beautiful old ceramic ashtrays on the tables.

The Surprise, Stockwell

The dog is always on a diet, but I understand it can't be kept out of picnics in the summer. A really fine pub.

The Gladstone, Vauxhall

Only visited on a Sunday afternoon (repeatedly though). Really friendly to a couple who keep themselves to themselves. Just as a pub ought to be.

The Wheatsheaf, Vauxhall

I've never risked the ales (I notice they have Landlord now though), but service is friendly and efficient. The food really is excellent. The photocopied menu of standards might lead you to expect normal microwave fare, but everything I have tried has been really nicely done.

The Lavender, Clapham

This restaurant/bar closed in winter 2007 and has been replaced by "oval lounge".
