Fishery Inn, Boxmoor

I've had a few pints in here recently and the beer has been of a consistently good standard. There is a strong emphasis on food but a distinct and roomy bar area has been retained for those just wanting a drink. Three bitters on offer: Young's best, Brakspear Oxford Gold and a regularly changing guest.

The Crown, Berkhamsted

A really excellent Wetherspoons'. For me, the beer quality consistently out performs the hightly rated Rising Sun. Has made a deserved return to the Good Beer Guide for 2014.

The Three Horseshoes, Bourne End

Great location which maybe helps to explain the below average beer and the unimaginitive, over priced food. A shame because if the food, and most importantly the beer, matched the location this would be a real destination boozer.

The Puzzle, Westminster

It's a "puzzle" why anyone would want to drink here. I thank yow.

The Royal Oak, Westminster

A pleasent enough place in which to drink a pint of Young's.

The Marquis of Granby, Westminster

Godd ale, both in respect of selection and condition, but ridiculously busy post work.

Tourist trap, avoid avoid.

The Strutton Arms, Westminster

Nothing to recommend it although staff are perfectly pleasant.

Plough, Worcester

Great pub. Went there on a recent cricket trip to Worcester and can't recommend it highly enough. Great beer, nice unspoilt layout, great conversation with the locals who are knowledgable about both beer and cricket. ps calm down Ed.

The Post Office Arms, Boxmoor

This is the sort of pub you can fall in love with. Small, back street pub serving top quality Fuller's ales. You won't find it unless you look for it, make sure you find it.

Harts Head Hotel, Giggleswick

Nice beer, bit trumpy on a quiet Tuesday evening.

The Talbot Arms, Settle

I find it difficult to say anything negative about this pub. Was in at Easter, choice of six differing ales, knowledgable and friendly bar man, very nice atmosphere without background music or machines. If in Settle give it a try, if you like ale you won't be disappointed.

Whittles, Oldham

Can't understand the low rating. Live music and decent real ale, what's not to like?

Carrion Crow, Oldham

A great local pub. Ever changing selection of ales from Marston's, both beer and pub well kept. It's easy to see why this pub is more popular than some on the hill.

The Greyhound, Wigginton

Had a couple of pints of Side Pocket (Tring) and a steak earlier in the week. Beer was in good order, I think it was a choice of 4 with the other selections very much usual supects (Doom Bar etc) but it was nice to have the option of a local ale. The steak was fantastic and beautifully cooked to order.

It's a big pub and as such it felt a little empty on a midweek lunchtime. Could have done without the radio being on but I'm nit picking, the service was excellent, both friendly and efficient.

Worth a visit.
