The Jolly Drovers, Leadgate

Been in once to see if there were any tables for a sunday lunch. The place was packed but felt as though they didn't like outsiders (tumbleweed blew across the bar as we walked in). Not really all that welcoming....maybe just a one off...hopefully.

Didnt stay long.

The Soviet Union Bars, Consett

Ideal for the young, alcopops generation / middle aged ogler. If you like loud, banging dance music then this is the establishment for you. Drinks a tad on the pricey side - take plenty cash if you venture in.

The Crown and Crossed Swords, Consett

Been in a few times, found the hotel/restaurant side much more pleasing than the public bar. The hotel and restaurant side of the pub sells a variety of drinks at reasonable prices. Good place to look for if you're after a bite to eat but don't want to book during peak periods.

Never had a problem in there.

The Freemasons Arms, Consett

Lovely pub, never had a bad night in here. Perhaps one of the largest pubs in Consett with such a fascinating history - pity 80% of it is now not open to the general public.

Drinks have started to get a tad expensive over the past few years and cheaper establishments have now meant that a few regulars are now frequenting elsewhere...again...pity!

Best Jukebox in the North East and a great selection of drinks.

Gets a little hot at the weekends and a bit smokey, but I guess this will change when the tab ban comes in.

Plenty of rumours about chains taking over this venue, true/untrue you decide! Locals should cherish this pub which may soon be lost to a bygone age. Its timewarped, but some of us love it!

That said, some parts could do with a little tidy here and there, but thats life eh!

Company Row, Consett

Great if you don't mind waiting half an hour to be served anytime from Thurdays and over the weekend as bar staff couldn't give two hoots who's next unless you get a supervisor serving - mind you, if you were on minimum wage, would you care?

Prices aren't all that cheap really, have started to catch up with the other trendy bars in the area - if you're simply looking for a cheap drink...you could do a lot better really.

Curry Club can be OK, but turn up early.

Variety of popular drinks runs out over the weekend on occasion, so make this bar your first port of call if you really want to bear the openness of the place.

Overall, wouldn't really want to recommned it... Weatherspoons really has lost the ethos of good old fashioned, cheap boozers and gone down the route of only stocking branded spirits wines and beers. pity. great biz idea, gone horribly wrong. Still, Yate's bar still has a chance to takeover over the road.
