Hadn't been to the Blackboys for a while but the superb landlord welcomed us like old friends. just a light lunch today, I had the potted salt beef and my wife the soup (parsnip I think). Both excellent. The Harveys Best Bitter was in fine form, wish we could have stayed all day!
We have booked to stay at the pub in September, (only two rooms available, both look great) so look forward to a long weekend.
This is a pub I hope to keep coming back to year after year.

The Alma has had a few landlords in the last few years. When I popped in it had been under the new management of Gary & Lindsey from the Rose and Crown in Burwash for a month. They said trade was gradually picking up and Gary had started cooking again. They had made a few changes in the bars (dimming the lighting, changing furniture around and generally making the saloon bar less corporate). The range of Harvey's ales were all in good condition and my fresh fish and chips was reasonably priced at �6.95. Will return soon, hopefully on a day when Gary's band is playing! I wish them all the best.

Popped into the Rose and Crown on Sunday 2nd November as I was in the area. Too late for lunch but stuck around to hear The House Band with Gary the landlord singing and playing guitar. This was an outstanding afternoon, Gary and his fellow musicians are really talented and played a complete mix of tunes; rock, swing, blues, reggae and even some Disney!
During the break Gary produced a big vat of chilli and french bread which was given away for a donation to the poppy appeal, a really nice gesture.
I take my hat off to Gary and his hard working staff, who in today's economic climate manage to fill a country pub with happy customers.
Hope to visit again soon, and see the band again. Keep up the good work!

Stayed at the Rose and Crown last weekend, 7th March after being recomended here. The double room was well equipped, clean, had an en suite bathroom and was only �60 per night!! Breakfast was included and was cooked and served by Gary the landlord, we chose the full English, but we could have had Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs, all included in the price. Our previous nights supper was excellent and there is a great atmosphere in the bar with all the locals. This pub is well worth a visit.

My wife and I visited the Blackboys Inn on Tuesday 4th March for lunch. I had a bowl of Kullen Skink, garnished with locally collected wild garlic leaves served with homemade bread to start, followed by a more than generous fillet of Red Snapper with baby spinach. Both were excellent. My wife had a sirloin steak, again excellently cooked, followed by a treacle pudding and custard, which more than hit the spot. My Chocolate Mousse was beautifully presented and great fun to eat with a layer of popping candy hidden beneath the icecream. All I can say is what a breath of fresh air this pub is serving real food and not overpriced brakes rubbish. Good luck!

Wishing Paul & all the team good luck in their new venture, great party, you'll be sadly missed. Well done for making The Blackboys one of England's truly great pubs.
