It did used to be a great gay pub. It is now The Boiler Room, a night-time live music venue, which I've not been to but by all accounts from people I know is pretty good if you like the music they've got on.

After five minutes of queueing, I started to get bored, once in, via 2 cute girls i was with, there is 2 levels. Ground floor bar; a barman that is charming but cannot mix the cocktail asked for so settled as spirit+mixer which even asking about deals, came to £10.20 for 2 dbl spirit mixers. Old cheesy music in the downstairs bar to start with but turned very hip-hop.

Been in a few times over the last few months and management seems to be shifting around a lot (no-one ever seems to be sure who is running the place), However, my last visit prior to recently was 6 months ago with a group of friends for meals and drinks and service was quick (almost too quick) which ended in 3 out of 6 meals plus 1 lager and 1 ale having to be returned all to be be met with no real apology, just seemed 'run of the mill' for them.
Was pleasantly surprised on all of my recent visits (with the exception of some none-to- pleasant patrons, and some questionable language being used by the bar-staff hanging around at the end of the bar) altogether they seem to be getting progressively better as the food, beer quality and service seems much better.

Went in last week with friends and chatted to the manager, it seems they were taken to review but most concerns were with regards to their smoking area which is on the main stretch of chertsey road and contends with all the late night customers from the other close venues. They successfully defended their license and are back to operating as usual, by that I mean it's mainly to watch sky sports or have a vodka and dance later on. We stayed on until about 1am and had a good night. Not a huge range of beers but quick and knowledgeable service from friendly staff and a generally decent atmosphere. My usual niggle though, even as a 'late night venue' REALLY needs a 'lick of paint' at least!

Not been here of an evening, but popped in for food about a month ago. Dcor etc is a nice mix of traditional with modren, but does need a touch up and the selection of non-alcoholic drinks was good, service was great (answered all niggling questions with knowledge, and mentioned where we chose to sit would be close to a small leak in the ceiling), food was really good! However, after going in to treat my mum for a belated mothers day meal, things weren't quite as great, lots of tables, inside and out, hadn't been cleared even though not hugely busy and our food (apart from dessert) wasn't very good or tasty. . Still based on my first experience, I would return again and hope they work out their niggles

Still closed, has been for well over a year, doesn't appear that anyone has shown an interest in the lease either. Any admins, this should be registered as CLOSED

As far as I'm aware, this has been closed down now. Some unfortunate sounding dispute regarding the B&B above. Shame really as it certainly had potential and used to be a nice lae venue years ago.

This place looks great, but... I wouldn't say there's too much else to rave about, the music is usually alright, particularly a couple of the live bands, and some of the cocktails are nice (and cheap early on). Other than that, the bar staff aren't hugely friendly (even when quiet) and the general atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired. I'm happy to pop in occasionally on a night out but wouldn't want to stay for the duration.

I'm not sure if they've had a change of staff/management but this place seems to be considerably better now. I used to avoid it like the plague but after not having visited in a couple of years I was dragged in for a mates birthday a couple of months ago and had a brilliant time! Since then I've been back a a fair few times cos they have Sky Sports and usually end up staying on through the night cos the DJ is pretty good, better crowd than some other late night places and I also have to say the bouncers didn't seem to be nasty as previous posters mentioned, They actually helped me hugely when I lost my mate.
For a place that doesn't look 'all that' I actually really rate it now!

Flares, Guildford
It's been a Nightclub for roughly 8 years now (Previously Edwards Bar), now called Popworld. Been a few times (twice as Flares and thrice as Popworld). It's got (relatively, for Guildford) cheap booze, cheesy pop dance tunes and the staff are bouncing around dancing and singing (which might make some nauseous). It does get very busy but I've been lucky enough to be part of a pre-booked party twice which means you get a seat, otherwise good luck! If you're going out to celebrate, party and dance (apparently regardless of age), this is for you. If you're after a beer, sit-down and chat after 11:30pm in Guildford, GOOD LUCK!
