The Great Western, Wolverhampton
A fantastic pub. Came here Saturday before the match and even though it was busy with Wolves fans, the staff were on top of things and served people quickly.
The Holdens bitter was superb, as was the Bathams. The pork rolls were also super.
A lovely place, especially in the front bar by the real fire. We came back after the match (the Arse won 1 - 4) for more of the same.
Stay up Wolves so I can return next season!

This is quite simply a fantastic pub. Great beer, great architecture, great food and a lovely atmosphere. Everything a pub should be but about 90% sadly aren't.

Up there with the best Newcastle pubs and a great location. Rather than chase Jack Carter over the High Level bridge having had the door of their Jag Mk II knocked off, the two villains should've popped in here for a few and life wouldn't have seemed so bad.

First came here in 1989 and visited again durung the peaceful lunchtime on 6th December 2007. A fantastic place with perfect ale, as you'd expect. A treasure.

This place is a breath of fresh air in the area. Went there last night and had three different ales - two Milton and one guest and they were all excellent. As said by other reviewers, the environment is a bit harsh and shool hallish - it could do with some selective use of 'softer' furnishings, lighting, etc. Ironically, the no-smoking policy makes it seem less 'pub like' but it'll be the norm after 1st July and I, a non-smoker, appreciated my jumper not stinking of fags when I got home.
The menu is good although most of the dishes appear overpriced but the ingredients are seemingly of good quality. That said, 4.50 for the various deserts is restaurant prices and this is a pub. Ditto 4.50 for Hummus and pitta bread and 7.50 for macaroni cheese and salad.
Still, overall it's a great addition to any area, let alone Hackney and I'll be back for more.

First came here in about '95 and it's timeless and perfect. It's the quintessential community local but in an area where most of the community's passion for beer is quenched by six cans of Stella for a fiver from Costcutter. It may be N1 but it's the Hackney part rather than the Islington part.
Those of the community who do make it in are treated to a fantastic range of real ales, salt beef sarnies, pasties, Jazz at the weekend, the legendary pub quiz on the Thursday night and jovial banter at all times that I've been there.
Pubtastic.

The Charles Lamb, Angel, Islington
Had heard about this place but forgotten about it until I saw a blackboard advertising it by the Regents Canal when I was cycling by on a boiling hot Friday in early July. It's a nice place, on a very quiet side street - you'd never know you were so close to Angel. The ales I tried were in tip-top condition, as was the sausage roll. Sure it's middle class and a bit twee but that's hardly a fault.

The Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak
The question is, why isn't this pub in the new 2011 Good Beer Guide? I'm not complaining as it's busy enough as it is. A gem of a pub.
