I agree there are better pubs in St Albans, but this is a decent honest pub, with good staff, and nice little garden. Would be a massive shame if pubs like this didnt exist anymore.

As generic suburban chain pubs go, this one is ok. It has been decorated to last another 7 years, in that hotel bar style which is inoffensive enough. The food is awful, straight from the freezer fayre, although the manager told us that he really wants to introduce his own menu soon. Your experience of this place will be largely influenced by the clientele that happens to be in at the time. The girl sat at the table next to us recounting the story of pressing her front bottom up against the window of TGI Fridays in Watford almost put me off my half pint of prawns but that said, she was not representative of the Friday after work crowd that seemed to be there.

Someone has sat down with a calculator and worked out the best place to position this pub in terms of revenue. To that end, it feels like it exists to make money, often to the detriment of the paying public. Im fairly certain that if the tables were not bookable, or at least 50% of them, a few more 000s might appear on their calculator. Everything is in place here to make it a real winner, if only the owner compromised on his or her ruthless pursuit of the bottom line.

This pub does try hard, but seems to miss the mark on occasions. The Prices for food are over the top, and 5-6 for a Birdseye burger in a bap from the BBQ is outrageous. Probably was better a couple of years ago, we have noticed a few more undesirable types making it their local of late, which is a shame. Probably best for a winter pint midweek.

I think some of the reviews on this pub are harsh. The pub is unpretentious and has a friendly laid back atmosphere. The food is all home-made and good, and the Beer is also good. The garden is a pleasant retreat away from the nearby centre of town, and generally the other customers are made up of decent folk not too many scumbags venture here.

The Glass House, St Albans
This pub use to be truly great a couple of summers ago. Those staff have long since left, and along with them has the clientele and atmosphere that made it so good. Id say the place has lost its way a little, despite its attempts to continually reinvent itself.
