Awful place, apparently serves Thai food, but cant comment on that. Went in there one evening, got stared at and looked up and down by the most dodgy looking locals you have ever seen. (There were only three people in the place) Landlord very strange and reserved, too. Asked if they serve food, luckily the reply was that theyd only start serving in an hour, so we could make our excuses and leave. This all took about 20 seconds, but left me feeling extremely uncomfortable.

The Green Man has recently been refurbished and was all set up for a great start and already they are coxing it up. After the refurbishment it opened as an extremely stylish and for lack of better word cool place, with a very smart interior. Loads of green plants, great layout, etc. The food was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and I loved the idea of serving a selection of wine by the carafe. (The carafes were even available in different sizes). The food was still slightly overpriced, but no more so than anywhere else.
So, back we went after a couple of weeks and to my horror I found that the layout had been changed, led by the managers sheer greed. I asked one of the staff why the layout and decoration had changed so drastically (all the plants had been removed in order to cram in just those extra few tables) and was told that their area manager had come by and didnt like it. Also, this way, they explained to me, they could fit more tables (yeah, go figure!).
So what the heck, we ordered out food anyway, ad guess what what I wanted to order had sold out. Never mind, I ordered something else sold out! My third choice was indeed available, but without the seasonal vegetables, since they had, you may have guessed, sold out.
Oh and of course they were also out of wine by the carafe. No, this is not a joke, this really did happen.

Robin Hood and Little John, Cherry Hinton
Typical family feed place pub-grub, loads of big parties, terribly noisy. Great if you need to take out your unemployed divorced friend and her five screaming children.

Good and inexpensive Thai food, although you can get better. Dark and dingy atmosphere. Alright for a lunchtime pint and food during the day, but attracts a rather dodgy clientele in the evening.

The Slug and Lettuce, Cambridge
This place used to be a lot better. Used to be great for a chilled out and informal Sunday lunch, but last time I went in there, the service was so bad that we got up and left, before we had even ordered. Oh and where are all those well-dressed stylish people other users have mentioned above me? I have certainly never met any of them in the Slug and Lettuce.

The Railway Tavern, Great Shelford
Yes, this is a pub, so therefore the tables are sticky and the looks of the place arent great. Their beer selection has improved lately, but there still isnt too much on the wine front. However, this is not necessarily the place to go just for a few pints (although the landlord and lady are very friendly and welcoming people), this is where you go for authentic Thai food in Cambridge.
The Railway serves by far the best Thai food in Cambridge and it is one of the very few places where you can get original Thai fishcakes, i.e. cooked with the proper ingredients and the right type of fish instead of using potato starch as a substitute. Yes, I am a snob, when it comes to Thai food, which is why I only eat Thai when a) I cook it myself, b) one of my Thai friends cooks it for me or c) Im at the Railway in Shelford.
My only criticism would be that because it is a pub, their menu is far too small.

The Bees in the Wall, Whittlesford
Very unwelcoming and arrogant staff.
